Deviated Septum

Featured Replies

Can anyone advise of a good hospital in Chonburi for above operation. Thank you

It's probably  a deviated septum, that you actually  mean.  Nasal issue?

Before you opt to get an operation, I recommend to search “empty nose syndrome”. I had no idea about this and thought it was a joke.

Empty nose syndrome is a rare occurrence (but a real problem foe those who develop it). Rare enough not to make it on the list of adverse effects in most studies of people having this surgery. You can find an overview of usual complications and their frequency here

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5992230/

That said, many septoplasties are unnecessary and you should indeed get a second opinion -- especially if the symptoms that trouble you have not been life long.

Most septal deviations are aysmptomatic and what frequently occurs is that someone develops symptoms from other causes (allergy, pollution - especially in Thailand), sees a doctor for it, learns for the first time that their septum is deviated and wrongly assumes that correcting the deviation will solve the problem. They then have surgery only to find that the problem persists.

"the effectiveness of septoplasty for nasal obstruction in adults with a deviated nasal septum remains uncertain. Scientific evidence is scarce and inconclusive, and internationally accepted guidelines are lacking"  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4634847/

in Chonburi area I suggest Dr. Apichai Kaolawanich at Oattaya International Hospital.

I like Sheryl's advice. I have had a deviated septum my whole life, I deal with the symptoms daily, but I didn't know this was a problem until someone told me it should be a problem.
