RTK or PCR test

Featured Replies

Hi

I am a bit stressed as waiting for a PCR test result before my flight tomorrow, which is being delayed due to an initial inconclusive test result.

So does anyone know if Thailand accepts an RTK Covid test, for which the results are much quicker.

RTK, I assume, stands for "rapid test kit". This says nothing about the technology surrounding the test. However, it will usually refer to one of the antigen tests (such as lateral flow tests) which can be quite accurate, but are often unreliable.

In many places (admittedly at high cost) there are centres that can process PCR tests within an hour. That is not as fast as the 15-minute antigen self tests you can get from a pharmacy, but very adequate for pre departure testing.

Anyway, the Thai authorities want to maximise the chance that people boarding planes to come to Thailand are Covid free. It is reasonable that this means mandated PCR tests. In an ideal world, every international airport would have the latest generation PCR processing machines, and you would be required to turn up an hour earlier for check in so as to allow time for everyone to be tested before boarding. We can dream.

@chesterubi1

"RT-PCR", that and nothing else on your document.

Not even simply "PCR", have read about problems with this short form.

"RTK"? is a term not used often here.

"ATK" (antigen test kit) used for the "15 min swab test"/"self test"/"rapid antigen test" and not acknowledged for entry.

4. Can I use a COVID-19 test result other than the RT-PCR to enter Thailand?

- No. Your COVID-19 test result must be obtained using the RT-PCR testing technique(ATK is not permitted) and issued within 72 hours before your travel only.

No only RtPCR is accepted.

Also not worth the risk of you taking your flight tomorrow as if the pcr test shows up inconclusive when they test you in the test and go hotels you will run into problems.

I would reschedule your flight to a later date if possible and wait until you know for sure your rtpcr result will be negative,

Your biggest problem is not an inconclusive result in your home country the problem will come if the Thai hospital get the same result.

I would not even attempt to take the flight given your circumstances.
