Schatzki Ring

Featured Replies

I have a Schtzki ring. I think it is only one. About 5-10 years ago, I got an endoscope which broke the ring and the doctor said it might reform and I'd need it done again but this time they would burn it. It has obv. reformed as I can hardly eat.

The doctor is the best in town and works at the private hospital and the public one.

Any idea how much the private treatment might cost?

At a guess I would say 100 - 150K. But that is just a guess.

Thanks.

Probably better going public, as also have insurance. SS.

Last time the actual tube going in ruptured the ring, making eating possible for years. Maybe I can just ask for an endoscopy, which could do the same thing again!

Electrosurgical incision gives better/longer lasting results.

I'm getting something done tomorrow. I'm very impressed with the time from consultation to surgery -  2 days -  at a public govt. hospital!

he said they would either do a balloon to widen the esophagus or cut it.
