BANGKOK (NNT) - The government is calling on all provinces to be on alert for potential COVID-19 clusters going into the New Year, as the Ministry of Public Health prepares to reimpose more stringent measures for international arrivals.

Prime Minister Gen Chan-o-cha has charged provincial governors and communicable disease committees with strictly scrutinizing the organization of various events during the New Year Holiday period.

Provinces holding major events and festivals with large numbers of attendees are expected to follow COVID-Free Setting standards and safety measures as issued by the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA). These include determining and limiting the number of participants, conducting temperature screenings at entry points, enforcing social distancing, requiring vaccine certification and antigen test kit results, and ensuring attendees wear face masks at all times.

Authorities are prepared to take proactive measures to prevent the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant, with the Ministry of Public Health considering stepped-up measures for people traveling from high-risk countries. These measures are not expected to affect the opening of tourist areas in 2022.

Outbreaks of what --  happiness ?

Sadly I think you are close ????

The problem with letting the local governors have free-rein is that they tend to flex their muscles, expect random alcohol sale bans.

Give them guidelines and limits please.

It seems he obvious that he is no leader. He gives the responsibilty to the provinces, because he is aware that it will be far worse with the new Omicron after the holiday season. So he can say. Look I have given you happiness for the New Years celebrations. The rest ....... was for the local authorities

They can do what they want. But all the restriction measures will be of no use. When will the politicians finally admit that they are powerless against the virus? It is impossible to completely isolate a population to 100% and to reduce all contacts with other people to zero. The majority of people have to go out to shop and have to go out to work. The belief that the official measures bring a lot gradually should, after 21 months of experimenting, be buried.

I think a few bevvies in the comfort of my own home sounds a better idea.. with an invited guest of course.
