New Casual Eatery In Jomtien

Its good to support small restaurants with good food and low prices, especially when they are new and in not in the best location.

So I sincerely suggest you drop by JITS restaurant and try out their Thai food.

I found it to be quite above the standard for its area in Jomtien where the Thai food choices run from OK street food to mediocre casual restaurant Thai food. After all, this is a big tourist area, so many places can do quite well and just be sorta OK.

Jits serves British and Thai food. I am talking about the Thai food here.

The presentation of the food was pretty (more elegant than you would expect at this kind of joint), the portions were above average, and most importantly, the taste was delicious. And most dishes except for things like pomfret fish were 100 baht or less.

This is a casual shophouse place with fans, but it seems to me a really worthy addition to the Thai food options in this area, so why not support them?

Location: Hanuman Statue area

Going from Pattaya on Thappraya turn left at the Hanuman statue. This road would take you to the View Talay Residences (not condos) and also Soi 5 immigration.

You will pass Ace Cafe on the left and Thai kitchen on the right.

Keep going a little ways and notice the new Thai/British restaurant in a new block of shophouses called JITS, over a dirt field. I think the new construction condos near there are Jomtien Shining Star.

I'll give that a go. If I'm travelling down that road, do I continue past Soi 5?

It's interesting that you posted this as I've been looking for good dining options in Jomtien. I live on the hill between Jomtien and Pattaya and would prefer to travel in the Jomtien direction rather than battle with the traffic in Pattaya but unfortunately I've not yet come across any restaurants in Jomtien that I like.

No, it's not nearly as far as Soi 5. Turn left at the road with the Hanuman statue coming from Pattaya, where there is a 7-11 on the left and a Family Mart on the right. Go one block and you will see Ace Cafe on a corner on the left, then look ahead across a field and you will see a new shophouse with Jits. Don't confuse with Thai food restaurant directly opposite Ace on the right side. So pretty close to Thappraya Road. Its just a very laid back small place, not a fancy night out, but a good option for locals thats clearly not a tourist trap.

Here you go, couple of pics showinng location. Hope it's clear. It's in the newly built shop houses. Looked at the menu, cheap and good value for money, with one of my friends stating that the fish & chips is better than that of Simon's (crikey).

I'm reviving this thread to give my comments on this new restaurant.

It is infact quite new as it opened on 1 June after a 3 year break from their old location in Naklua (I was given this info straight from the owner).

I enjoyed eating theire. It's a family run restaurant which value their customers and aims to please.

I gave them a go yesterday for the first time and really enjoyed eating there. I ordered chicken with cashews which turned out to be one of the best I've tasted in Pattaya. My girl ordered the t-bone steak, which was satisfactory considering the 160 baht price tag and the fact that it was local beef.

I will return to try out some other dishes. The owner was really pushing her fish and chips as being unequalled...and a huge portion for only 130. I will try them out on a return visit.

As this has been revived, may I also add that 2 new indian eateries have recently popp(adom)ed-up in Jomtien, both in the Jomtien complex. First one is next to the Hide-Away Bar, what used to be 'The Chippy' has now been renamed 'Tikka Centre 2'. Second one, next to The Blue Room, named 'Cafe India'. Prices differ between the 2, with Tikka Centre appearing cheaper. I have not yet sampled any of their food, but I'll try and post a report in the near future.

Ah, so The Chippy finally bit the dust? I used to eat there frequently a couple years ago, then the quality and quantity of food started to vary so much, I stopped going. Sometimes the chips and peas would almost not fit on the plate, other times there were only a small spot of peas and half the normal amount of chips. Same-same for consitent quality. I miss the *old* Chippy.

A vegetarian friend is coming to visit this weekend and staying in the Jomtien Complex area, so maybe we'll try the Cafe India.

Talking about vegetarian food...I've just been informed of a vegetarian restaurant on the corner of 3rd Road and Pattaya Tai that is very good. Sorry I can't supply the name right now, but I will once I've given it a go.

Please tell me about Cafe India. Where is it?

Tropo, cafe India is inside Jomtien complex, adjacent to 'The Blue Room' bar and hot stone grill etc. Mixed reports so far though, with prices a little high. I have to say that the best indian food I have had so far is in Food Wave, in Royal Garden Plaza - 140 Baht for a curry - choice is limited to maybe 5 or 6 curries including chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable curry and a sublime Rogan Josh. The quality I thought was excellent.

Another casual eatery in Jomtien....

MEATPOINT - located near the Hanuman Statue, around the back of Family Mart/Mermaid Bar. Owned & run by a friendly dutch fella named Rene, he specialises in Shoarma kebabs etc.. great to have after a few beers (he even has a shoarma pizza on the menu) He has Heineken draft beer served in iced glasses at about 40 Baht - he currently has an opening promotion where you get a free beer with your meal.

The place is set out in an open plan style, with the kitchen in full view (ala foodland style). For those hygenists amongst you, all the staff wear gloves when handling the food - although from experience this will not prevent you getting the shits after a kebab!

Overall it's a pleasant & clean environment. They are open from 9.00am until 11.00pm

That Aharn Jae place has been there for as long as I have lived here. Good food if you want a change from protein and fat.

Hey Jingthing I tried out Jits and you are right ! :D

The food was good and as you said "It's a family run restaurant which

value their customers and aims to please " When I ordered a spicy

dish the owner suggested I try a small sample first - she was concerned

that a farng couldnt hanlde it :o But i assured her I liked it spicy -so

I got the full dish. But how many restaurant owners show that concern ?

Anyay the food was great, the price was very reasonable and I hope they

have a booming business there - i think they will :D

turn left off the main road towards the ace cafe, there is a really tight left at the ace go straight across on the dirt, its a new complex and is still in state of being finished ( the area not the eatery in question ! ), you can see it in the backround,.

Jits is now CLOSED.

I got back from a trip and walked by. All dark and boarded up. The sign gone. Boo hoo. Gonna miss you.

Its weird that a place that really gave value for money and warm, personal service bit the dust, and so many bad tourist traps thrive. I don't get it. Maybe they closed for personal reasons.

I tried the place next door for the first time since they moved from the corner opposite Ace Cafe. Not nearly as good as Jits in my opinion.

The location was bad for passing trade as not easily visible, plus the ongoing construction that never seems to progress wouldn't have helped either.

It just goes to show how value for money, qaulity and customer care, just doesn't beat location.

For those who love authentic Thai food at a fraction of the price that you would pay in a tourist restaurant, i can recommend a Thai style (as it's mainly Thais that eat there) restaurant on Jomtien beach Rd between soi 3 & 4 next door to the 7/11.

All that is written out the front is Guest House 24hrs, not much to look at and very basic layout with street stalls at the entrance, with the main restaurant inside and open plan.

The Thai food is cooked to order from a large menu in English, and very good qaulity, also they have excellent chicken noodle soup for 30bt, you can also order from the street stalls at the entrance and eat inside at the tables too.

Worth a try if you like real Thai food and not the overpriced tourist crap.

I have been eating at the restaurant "Lan Bey" that was next door to Jits for the last two years, several times a week......good food, good English speaking, good service, good owner and has Thai and farang food

Yes, they are nice people, but to my taste their food is meh. Those in the area should give a try and see if they like it. I don't.

Yes it's too bad it closed - it had cheap and tasty lamb chops.

Good news: in Jomtien complex there is a new Russian-run European/Thai place

called Kalinkaya Malinkaya(sp?) two shops from Poissiden.

They have a chef that actually knows a thing or two and the prices are reasonable.

Try Rin Kitchen....soi next to the 90 baht spaghetti/jade house...between german dental and 7-11....just go doen the soi and you will see it....just the best and reasonable

Jit's unfortunately seems to have bit the dust!

Sign etc. gone shutters down.I spoke to her some weeks ago and she said it nhad been a dreadful season ,shame.Lovely lady.

We used to go when she was in the car park in front of 7-11 by Hanuman Statue.

By the way what is a 'casual eatery' ? If a table, knife and fork are provided, plus alcohol as per Jits,I consider that pretty serious.

McDonalds or Insect stalls at the roadside are more of a casual nature I feel.

Have a great time
