Why store them when you can download almost anything these days.

Up to a certain point

I think you mean by download almost anything you mean new movies and TV series.

Yes you are correct by that. Many sites where you can download it / stream it.

BUT try to find OLD series and you are almost ... out of luck!! And also don't forget Torrents had their best days, yes still a lot of sites around but most of them (THE Good ones) are closed for outsiders while others are INVITE only. Ooh yes then there is Piratebay. Yeah lots of good stuff around there, a lot of torrents but NO seeders. (It's not ratio based, so most people there download stuff and when they get it remove it from their client)

And also don't forget that a service like NETFLIX also culls series / movies. Ooh I would like to watch that movie again, ooh ... it's gone, now have to find another download site or subscription site to watch it!

:cheesy:

Yes indeed, i mean games get bigger camera images get bigger. Your buying things not only based on now but also to be more future proof. If someone likes hi resolution pictures great then he can store them. If someone likes big 4k movies can store them.

Games were not that big but the once i recently play are a lot bigger, especially VR. Movies and TV series get better qualities and so on and so on.

Yep!!!

Just compare a current not so expensive smart phone to the PC that controlled Apollo 13!!!

That (current) smart phone that (almost) everyone has, has more processing power and more memory then that PC!!!

You can never have too much storage space.  Back in 1988/1989 the company I worked for bought a load of Compaq 386/20e PCs, which were pretty much the best you could get back then, with their 20MHz 386 processor, 1Mb of RAM and a 120Mb hard drive.  I went to a computer shop in Singapore, where I was living at the time, to buy some 5.25" floppy disks to store my own stuff and the assistant asked me if I had an XT.

"No", I bragged, "I'm using a Compaq 386/20e"

He looked at me in amazement and said "Why are you buying floppy disks?  You'll never fill that hard drive!"

Indeed, plus its also a user thing, i mean why buy a comfortable car if a cheap car can get you there too. Some people don't care about speed and ease of use but want things at the cheap even if it means less comfort pleasure of use.

I recently build an I9 - 12900K system with an expensive motherboard Z690 Aorus Master, maybe i dont need all that power but i love that my VR goes even more smoothly games too. Some of the huge spreadsheets i use go faster too. I even added liquid cooling, why do that when air cooled can do.

Its all about what someone likes and thinks is nice. Its not up to others to say you dont need it because they are happy with their minimalistic stuff. We all have things we like to spend money on that others might not do. I am not a car guy for instance or a bar type. So should I call those out that go to bars or like expensive cars ?

Just stupid IMHO, same my GF likes whiskey and has some 4000bt bottles too. I would hate to drink something like that knowing its that expensive. But her choice her money. I mean if someone likes something then let them do so.

You should not download and store stuff because you can watch it online (like you said older stuff goes away). That is just their preference why should it be yours.

The point is to have the choice without beeing connected or using Netflix ????

nothing wrong with that, and I agree. But 8TB of garbage you will never go through? who does that? if you have a "condition", I can understand ????

A friend of mine has a "condition" like that, and he was "diagnosed", and he does exactly that, and he is close to 100TB of digital garbage he never use. Just happy to claim that he has 100 TB of digital garbage ????

before that, they would simply "collect" newspaper ????

sorry to have hit a nerve, but you do come across as a "collector" with a condition ????

I have 50GB+ of data, but they are learning models for my AI projects, so it's justified

and my "offline" porn is less than 1GB, I only keep the best ????

Are you stupid or something not knowing the difference between GB and TB. Seriously 1 episode of a TV series can be 2GB

Not really smart for someone who thinks he knows IT.

How do we know you are not actually one of those learning models from your AI projects? You could have been more successful, than you ever believed, and have been replaced by AI. This would account for some of your weird posts. ????

Smarter then you is an easy feat as i have just noticed. Anyway on those NVE SSD disks there are no movies no music nothing. VR games and some other games and a lot of data from clients.

The NAS is where i collect as you call it stuff.

Not many games even.. they just got huge. Sorry that you are behind in times.

it's a small mistake, everyone understood, except you it seems ????

Oh i think its just stupid for a self proclaimed IT expert to not know the basics. Has nothing to do with hitting a nerve. Just makes you look like a total fool when you claim to be such a good IT expert.

You did not make the typo once.. you made it in multiple posts. I mean I can understand a typo everyone does them but when you do them in two posts multiple times. Is that then called a typo or sheer stupidity.
