What are the reported figures and how do the call into question the official figures?

Are the reported figures not official and coming from the same place?

2 conflicting sets of figures available yesterday: The 1st from NNT on Facebook. The 2nd showing double the number of cases is from the WHO on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coronavirus_info?page_source=covid_vaccine_faxit&hoisted_module_type=covid_vaccine_development

Daily totals reported are dropping but then they say many clusters happening and rising. Maybe there is a week's time lag from testing to entering the system?

I suspect they are keeping the numbers low until after New Year, either through low testing numbers or deliberate manipulation.

They want the numbers to support keeping the New Year period open for travel (I assume to throw a lifeline to domestic tourism) and then after that, they will have no choice but to let the true numbers be known. This will result in them re-introducing their favourite restrictions in early January, which of course will do little to stop the spread. Basically a replay of Songkran, shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted.

It will rip first or second week in janurary, a 4 week trailing EU UK this cant be stopped testing and high number of cases with lower hosp adms trending else where

Only problem can Thailand afford a lockdown again having come from an 8 month most of 21 and still on a high baht.

Was hoping for a return end of jan if it stays open.

There seems to be a pervasive delusion that the economy will do well in an out of control pandemic if only they opened up. It's almost as if people will be shopping and partying like they were before there was coronavirus. The common sense approach would be to minimise infection spread until such time as everyone has been vaccinated, including by vaccines not already in production that that is required, Meantime, mandatory vaccines, masks and social distancing are the best option.

more of the same is not helping the millions in poverty

Omicron is a milder variant that cant be stopped unless everyone self isolates forever

time to live 70%+ vaccinated, ecomony and mental health have equal importance, enough if you want to stay lockdown then up to you and good luck if you can afford it.

US Supreme Court is about to find itself on the wrong side of history and public opinion as it has decided to hear an injunction against the vaccine mandate. Oral arguments are slated for Jan 7 and is likely to be referred to the full bench. By this time, the pandemic will be totally out of control in tidal wave proportions.

I'll say it again, it's almost as if some people believe that businesses will do well if they open up with out of control virus infections. That's irrational.

Airlines are cancelling flights because staff are sick, the same pattern is spreading throughout industry and even sporting teams. That also totally ignores the plight of hospitals where the national guard is being called in because nurses are overwhelmed and burned out.

What is the fuss about? We are told this new mutation is just as mild as the common cold, right?

Here, read the views of the world's best virologists. Can you spot who is misinformed?

Your claim was that the virus was as mild as the common cold. I asked you to cite evidence to support that. The link you posted makes no such claim. There is also nothing to suggest that the next mutation would not be more dangerous.

Lol. I was criticizing someone else for saying it was mild as a cold.

So you read the link. Good!

There's a lot more on the way.

Sadly, yes. There is now concern in Cambodia (from today's Cambodia media 28 December 2021:-)

"Thailand has confirmed that at least three Omicron cases have been found and that 49 people are at ‘high risk’ in a province directly bordering Cambodia (North) which contains an international border crossing into The Kingdom"

"The provincial Covid-19 information centre of Surin province said ............... that 49 people in the province’s Kap Choeng district are at ‘high risk’ of Omicron infection. Kap Choeng district is on the border with Cambodia with the international border crossing ........... of Chong Chom Checkpoint"

But the same soaring cases is happening in Europe and elsewhere in the world  so isn't your comment just selective Thai bashing? Basically it could be construed as groundless prejudice  or even racism.

This thread is, however, concerned with Thailand, therefore the comment has validity without being necessarily selective. If you choose to construe it any other way, that's your prerogative.

Let it rip!  The faster it spreads the sooner this mess is over with!

That is only a very optimistic theory. The truth is that nobody actually knows what will happen globally after the Omicron wave passes. Thus I consider posts like yours and many similar to be dangerous misinformation.
