Tips for safe travel during long New Year holidays

The Thai Department of Health Services is offering tips for safe travel during New Year holidays, especially for protection against COVID-19, including the easily transmissible Omicron variant.

Head of the department, Dr. Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, said that travelling together in the same private or public transport vehicle increases the risk of COVID-19 infection because people are together in a confined space for a long period of time. There is also poor air circulation in vehicles and a likelihood that some of the passengers may not wear face masks all the time or may talk with each other during the journey.

Under such circumstances, he suggested the following tips:

Wear face masks all the time and avoid talking during the journey

Avoiding eating together while travelling in the same vehicle

Do not share glasses, bottles, knives, spoons or forks

Maintain social distancing

Wash hands regularly with sanitiser

Avoid touching common surfaces at rest areas

On a long journey, stop the vehicle every hour and open the car windows

Does he realise he is addressing mostly Thai people who will make up the majority of the travelers, the first four recommendations would probably be broken within the first half hour ..............LOL

Don't!!

'safe travel' in the Kingdom is a myth. It's dangerous 24 hours a day, 375 days a year to be anywhere near a road.

The extra ten days is a margin to extinguish anybody who survived the prior 365 days.

Don't bother is my advice.

Unfortunately the main 202 here in Isaan is already chock a block.

You tell my Mrs to avoid talking when there is just me & her and her daughter in the car.

Avoid eating and talking. Are they actually tacking the pi$$ here?

Stop a Thai eating and talking. Yeah right

Or just don’t travel and stay home, in bed, with the missus. Much more fun than spending hours and hours on a crowded bus or minivan with the aircon set to -10 degrees.
