What VISA should I apply for?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am a British citizen (20year-30years old) and in a year I plan to work in Thailand for around 6 months and live with my Thai girlfriend.

I currently work as a software developer so all of my work is remote, I'd be working for the company I work for now, which is based in the UK so getting a work permit is not possible as those are only if you are working for a Thai company, please correct me if I'm wrong.

With all of this explained, I did some research on what Thai Visa I should get and about being a digital nomad and I have found a lot of digital nomads live in Thailand and that most are in an illegal grey area with working there, I'd like to live over there completely legally and with the appropriate visa. I think the most appropriate visa would be the SMART T visa, as my income would exceed 100k baht per month, I could get the 1-year contract but I am not sure how this would work with me wanting to only stay for 6 months would I need to stay for a year instead?

I think that's it, please let me know if there's something I have missed or an alternative visa I should get.

In the future, I will contact a Law Firm to sort out the visa (https://www.siam-legal.com).

If you are only want to stay for 6 months a STV (special tourist visa) might be the best option. It allows a 90 day stay when you arrive and then you can apply for two 90 day extensions.

Seems that STV is no longer allowed to apply. Only those that had before 30 Sept 2021 can extend it.

They extended the order for the STV until September of 2022.

Check the Thai embassy website where you would be applying.
