The chief of the Samrong Neua police in Samut Prakan went to visit a man they wrongfully arrested for drugs.

Chief Pol Col Arthit Simcharoen took a basket of fruit and presents to apologize for getting everything completely wrong.

This came as the RTP spokesman was singing the praises of the force for always catching the bad guys and blaming the public for defaming them and threatening jail for criticism of the force, reported Daily News.

The man at the center of this case was stopped near a checkpoint with some white powder. A clip hit the internet.

The cops claimed he tested positive for drug use, hurled him in a police vehicle and detained him at the station.

He could have faced years in jail. He claimed vociferously that he had been framed by the RTP and had noting whatsoever to do with drugs.

Now the RTP have been forced to back down big-time after it was discovered that the powder was not drugs.

It was camphor - used as a spice in food and as a medicine for centuries.

Arthit said that the victim of the RTP bungling has accepted his apology and that an investigation is underway into what went wrong.

He promised justice for all who were involved.
