I need a hinge fixed on my Acer laptop but, the shop I used to go to in Tukcom is gone. It was the one on the 3rd floor toward the back (as you come up the escalator - a little jag to the right and straight ahead) they knew their stuff, did good work at a fair price. There are two shops on the right hand side of the escalator. I took my laptop into the the first one (can't remember the name) who did a lousy job. The hinge is offset and just came loose again 3 weeks later. I took the plastic cover off and saw that he didn't replace anything, just squeezed a little glue in then overcharged big time. I'm not much for confrontation so I paid the bill thinking he had actually repaired the thing, he did not. Terrible shoddy work. I know he should fix it a gain but the work is badly done to the point I think he might cause more problems.

 

So, does anyone know where the other guys moved to or do you have a suggestion for a competent fair minded repair shop?

 

After scanning through about 200 pics on Google Maps found it. PATTAYA2U. The reason I'm still posting this is b/c they do excellent work while the other guys do not. Do a Google search, they're about 3 blocks from Tukcom

Okay, I asked because I usually take my ACER devices to the official service centre. They usually charge 400 baht + VAT for small jobs. Though that may have changed to 600 baht + VAT as I haven't visited for a while.

So if P2U do a good job at a reasonable price, I can keep them in mind.

Good info for sure. In the case of a hinge it can be big or it can be small. I checked online vids and depending on where the damage is it can mean a near complete dismantling. In my case it looks like the spot where the hinge attaches to the lid has broken loose.  This vid shows a lot of work, a big repair due to a relatively simple thing like a hinge. 

 

 

BTW - do you have a location for the ACER service center you use?

I am guessing he is referring to the one in Chonburi - but it is not, or wasn't, quite in the town centre when I last went pre covid. Unfortunately I have lost the phone number as well.

      Rather than begging for more funds that will have to be added to the enormous debt the US has, it's time to stop spending money on the Gaza/ Lebanon conflict and the Ukraine war. Use that money which will not add to the debt for Americans in need and not for killing people.

      What's your point? She then went on for years afterwards saying that Trump was an illegitimate President. Just like Trump has said about Biden. In this case Trump has been right. Over the coming weeks you will find out exactly how many votes Biden received in 2020. And the number that Kamala loses by on the 5th November assuming that the election even takes place.

      LOL. On one of the islands I ordered an egg salad and got sliced boiled egg, with no salad. My Thai GF at the time didn't let me complain. Probably wise as had I done so and got some lettuce to add who know what "extras" it may have had included? A good lesson I learned in LOS is if have a problem with one place just don't return. Complaining does not work. At least in LOS there are plenty of places to choose from.

      No travel insurance for me !

      This is a warning for you guys to check your travel insurance So I got a bit worried lately after a member on here spoke about his heart pains with his frequent testereone injections I noticed also I was getting chest pains too although the right side and middle after testereone injections I had these checked in Australia with Cardiography etc but the doctors claim they can't find anything except something called pericarditis which in his words is trivial the lying thieving Australian doctors say and should go away I made enquiries with a hospital to get a heart check whilst I'm here in Thailand I emailed the travel insurance company to ask for payment Well...they write back after a few days to tell me ,sorry it's pre existing your heart tests because..... anything you went to the doctor about in the last 12 months your NOT covered for !!! Which leaves me covered for nothing !!! In the last year I have been for heart tests ,liver tests ,kidney tests ,body ultrasouns ,chest X rays , bladder tests , prostate tests ,throat scans , colonoscopy etc They found nothing because they are liars !!! I'm a walking time now and yesterday sitting in a cafe in Pattaya I started to get anxiety and felt like a heart pain and then a liver pain and started thinking about the cost of I did have a heart attack or kidney failure or liver failure or my knees give out They write back to tell me I'm covered for anything NOT involving the last 13 months ! Means nothing I will be taking them to court They have blocked my communication because they are thieves and I have emailed them over 50 times to tell them I have asked for my money back Please check your insurance You are NOT covered for heart attack if you have HIGH Blood pressure before taking the insurance unless you got pre existing cover and exemption They accept your $$$ but will refuse if you have a heart attack claiming it was pre existing and was caused by your high blood pressure Hopefully my CT scan calcium scan on Wednesday in BKK will let me know if I need to rush back to Australia for immediate heart surgery . My blood pressure was 135 yesterday

      When I was young Japanese products were a joke they were so bad. By the time I grew up they made the best on the planet. I bought a Japanese socket set which cost a great deal of money, because it was better than British best. Makita make tools as good or better than the competition, but they cost a lot, so I usually by cheap junk like B & D as I can probably buy 3 of them for the same price as a Makita equivalent.

In a statement released Saturday, the administration dismissed online rumors, including a bizarre theory that Helene was a government-engineered storm designed to allow corporations to mine regional lithium deposits. “We have seen a large increase in false information circulating online related to the federal response to Hurricane Helene,” the White House said, highlighting that “scam artists, bad-faith actors, and others who want to sow chaos because they think it helps their political interests” are behind much of the disinformation. Claims such as emergency disaster funds being spent on housing immigrants and that aid will be capped at $750 per claim were condemned as “wrong” and “dangerous,” with the administration calling for an immediate stop to the spread of these falsehoods. Marjorie Taylor Greene says 'they can control the weather'; Biden noted that while FEMA can meet immediate needs, additional funding will be essential for long-term recovery efforts. He expects Congress to act on a comprehensive disaster relief package after its November return, although action on specific programs might be required before then. As the devastation continues to unfold, Vice President Kamala Harris cut short her campaign trip through the western states to visit areas in western North Carolina, where whole towns were submerged by floodwaters. Biden toured the destruction in North Carolina by air on Wednesday, followed by visits to Florida and Georgia on Thursday, where he witnessed the extensive cleanup efforts. He warned that recovery costs will amount to “billions of dollars” and emphasized the urgency of securing additional funding. “People need help now,” he said, pointing to the damage across the Carolinas and beyond. As of the latest reports, at least 225 people have died due to Hurricane Helene, with officials warning that the toll is expected to rise as search and recovery operations continue. In Asheville, North Carolina, authorities are still working on 75 cases of missing persons, and nearly 1 million people remain without power. The financial strain from Helene has compounded existing challenges, with the Small Business Administration (SBA) facing a critical funding shortfall. Biden’s letter highlighted that the SBA’s disaster relief loan program will run out of funds within weeks unless Congress intervenes. The SBA is currently processing around 3,000 Hurricane Helene-related applications daily, and it needs an additional $1.6 billion to meet these demands. Before Helene, the White House had already cautioned that low funding levels could result in the SBA halting its operations after covering weather-related incidents such as the Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore and recovery efforts following Maui’s wildfires and tornado damage in the Midwest. Early estimates from Moody’s Analytics predict that Hurricane Helene could cost upwards of $34 billion, while AccuWeather has placed the figure between $225 billion and $250 billion, with very little of the damage covered by private insurance. The financial and political stakes surrounding the Helene disaster are high. Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has stated that lawmakers will assess the hurricane’s impact after the upcoming election. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump has accused Democrats of misallocating over $640 million of FEMA funds to house migrants, a claim the White House labeled as “bold-faced lies.” During a speech in Georgia, Trump claimed that disaster relief money destined for states like Georgia and North Carolina had already been diverted to support immigrants. “It’s been gone for people that came into the country illegally,” Trump said. FEMA swiftly responded to the accusation, clarifying that the funds Trump referred to were part of a separate program entirely unrelated to disaster relief. The agency reaffirmed that no disaster response money had been diverted and that over $45 million in aid had already been distributed to communities affected by the hurricane. As disinformation swirls around the recovery efforts, the White House continues to push for swift action from Congress to address the monumental financial needs that Hurricane Helene has left in its wake.
