BANGKOK, Jan 24 (TNA) – Leaders of the People’s Network for a Just Society (P-Move) brought their demonstrators from the United Nations complex to Government House to pressure the cabinet to consider their 15 demands.

The group said that the cabinet could consider some demands right away because they had been raised for years. They included demands for basic rights to public utilities, solutions to land disputes and communities’ land title deeds.

Are they really a "political party" though?

The regime has a tight grip on the formation, and dissolution, of political parties. I think there are strict rules re: funding, leaders, members, etc.

There was an Organic Act on Political Parties (2017) called for in the latest constitution. This act has 150+ sections. Some features:

Among the core sections is one requiring a political party to have at least 1 million baht in initial registered capital and all founders of the party to each contribute at least 1,000 baht, but no more than 50,000 baht per person, into the initial fund.

Prior to the submission of a request for the registration of a new party, a quorum of at least 250 of the founders and co-founders is required and a formal meeting must be held, according to the law.

Within one year of a party's registration, it has to have obtained at least 5,000 members, and after four years it must have 10,000 members.

The registered party is also obliged to set up at least one branch in every region and each branch is required to have at least 500 party members.

So I'm guessing this is NOT another political party.

I would suggest that this is exactly what Thailand needs, more (many more) political movements , they are not allowed to call them parties because the constitution effectively allows the regime to control the establishment of them, as described above. The more such movements the better, if only to give the people a voice, and to remind the government that there is a society in Thailand apart from their mates and cronies in business!

Of course they must protest, because the routes to any other means of political campaigning and expression have been closed off by the "reforms" of your beloved Mr Prayut.

I guess any political party would be better than your junta hero.

Strange. Usually, whenever a movement is called people's something, It's yellow.

Someone will probably sue them for calling themselves "people's" and not being yellow.

Saves all the hassles of having to use batons and gas on them, and has the advantage that often one can get ones sticky paws on their money and assets...

Which perhaps helps explain their curious moniker, P(ee)-Move....

What Thailand does not need is bullies with guns taking over the country for their own financial ends. You have The Chuckle Brothers, one of them a soldier posing as a PM and the other, a guy with a degree in engineering, posing as a health minister.

They look more like a pair of demented circus midgets.
