Popular Post snoop1130
Bangkok’s Thonglor traffic police plan to notify over 25,000 motorists and motorcyclists, who were caught by surveillance cameras encroaching on zebra crossings at the Asoke-Sukhumvit intersection, to pay their fines. Spokesman for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Pongsakorn Kwanmuang said today (Wednesday) that the city and Thonglor police have introduced AI technology to collect information about traffic violators at the intersection. Within one month of the AI technology entering use, he said 25,094 drivers were detected encroaching onto on zebra crossings, even though the crossing has been expanded and painted in red and white, with an off-limit zone warning sign, notification of penalties and a speed bump to slow down vehicles turning left into Sukhumvit Road. I got a ticket sent to my home address for running a red light in Phuket about 3 months ago, fine 500 baht. It was caught on camera. Something I would never do however the reason I did was because it was early in the morning on the school run with my daughter, lots of traffic. On the road we travel the traffic police direct the traffic at the lights so waved me and all the other cars waiting at the red light to go regardless as he was blocking the other route. When the ticket came it had me plus about 8 other cars all passing through but that was because we were told to by the police..................lol 6 1 6

Popular Post Swampy999
Of course all the motorcycle riders caught on camera were wearing crash helmets and nobody was using a mobile phone and the Artificial Intelligence system did not flag any unregistered, uninsured vehicles ???????? The Artificial Intelligence is very suitable for the police here as they have no real intelligence of their own. 9 1 1

Where I live very few people stop at crosswalks, why, because they will have a car, truck, bus up their backside if they do. Maybe they need a set of lights at every crosswalk? A huge problem everywhere, but unless Thailand adopts red light cameras and issues very heavy fines to offenders, it will be impossible to stop. You can't catch them. People parked at red lights are a lot easier to fine.

Zebra crossing is used in many countries. If you want to complain, sidewalk vs pavement is a better subject. 555 9 hours ago, jaiyen said: Poor little American guy wants all the world to talk like them ! Although I agree with your later point, your former is funny to me. I have experienced far more Englishmen that want to tell people that American, Australian, South African, Canadian etc, English is wrong or a butchering of the language than Americans. Really seems to burn a few butts when some Thais I know use Americanisms around there British English teachers. It is really funny. 3

We are lucky that we have a choice when we do wrong. Imagine the cost in fines, points and insurance back home. 1

You can never have too much cash. You call it a "bribe", but this is not always the case as I've been asked for cash money on numerous occasions before making any offer to pay on the spot. They even had a fine price list at one stop. To pay you go into the little police booth to part with your cash. One place even had a rubber stamp for your wrist (like a nightclub entry stamp) as a "leave me alone" pass for the rest of the night LOL. There are some quite elaborate police cash collecting enterprises. 4

Sure, time is money, so it makes a lot of sense to pay on the spot... especially if you are traveling and far from home. Putting your trip on hold to pay at a local police station the next day if caught at night could become quite expensive.

brianthainess
I do try to drive within the law, but there has been a couple of times, at the same junction, I drove straight through a red light, silly me I was looking and concentrating at the road ahead, and not 5mtrs up in the air where the lights were. But hey I will never ever get a ticket sent to me, for any traffic violation, my postman NEVER delivers stuff all !

Popular Post jossthaifarang
Let's put a stop to all the bickering. It's not a Zebra crossing, or a crosswalk. It is a pedestrian crossing, correct in any country across the globe... You can all thank me later.
