A crowdfunding appeal has been started for the British man who survived last week's attack by a 22 year old man wielding a sickle, reports ASEAN NOW.

The "Just Giving" appeal, started by Nicole Shaw, had raised about 40,000 baht out of a target of about 225,000 for Shaun Dagnan.

The appeal said they were raising 5,000 pounds to "Help Daggy in Thailand".

It continued:

"On Saturday 15th January (actually it was 22nd) our friend Shaun Dagnan was subjected to a horrific attack whilst on holiday in Thailand as seen on the national news. His friend was sadly killed so we're very lucky to still have him with us after sustaining his very serious injuries

"His travel insurance has lapsed due to an unexpected extended stay. While he is receiving some support from immigration and the British consulate (embassy)  this isn't going to be a short process.

"We are trying to raise funds to help support with costs of medical expenses and recovery. Any donations and help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you".

Earlier unconfirmed reports suggested that Mr Dagnan had been living in Thailand with his wife Pranee for three years.

Mr Dagnan posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday that he was now out of hospital and home. He said he was still very poorly and very sore.

Later pictures were posted Friday of what appeared to be the funeral of 49 year old Marcus Evans who died last Saturday.

Several police officers were in attendance as monks chanted.

Mr Dagnan said: "RIP Marcus my friend and a true gentleman. I'll miss our night time banter and you will surly (sic) be missed by many fly high and sweet dreams TOP MAN much love".

A 22 year old Thai man, reportedly with mental health problems, is helping police with their inquiries in the western Thai city of Kanchanaburi.

The story has made headlines throughout the world.

A few of them around. When I was living in Lamphun a "disturbed" young man with a machete smashed up a lot of cars parked by a nearby apartment block. Just as well he left before anyone could confront him, or a resident could have been like the dead man in the OP.

Well, which was is it?

On holiday or living here with his wife for 3 years?

What i'm worried about is that there will be a day when the Thai government will force each foreigner coming to Thailand or staying in Thailand to have an insurance to cover such situations if such cases will continue to happen seeing that burden that situation like that brings upon the system...

Hmmm... That's two reports with language framing the Thai suapect in a positive light. Strange.

Deliberate translation or something else?
