Well, that's the new name of the Redskins.

How does it make you feel?

I think it's a good choice if they had to change the name which they decided they did.

The only downsides I think are that it comes across as kind of war mongering and also it will be more humiliating and fodder for dissing press coverage when the team is losing badly.

 

For old times sake. 

This tune won't work with the new name.

 

 

Speaking of offensive names that need to be changed, it's time for Whoopi Goldberg to go back to being Karen Johnson.  I always thought her name was a cynical slam.

She's a comedian.  I don't find her name offensive at all.

 

But I hate this new name.  As a native American Indian, I didn't find the previous name offensive.

The shortlist was:

 

- Armada
- Presidents
- Brigade
- RedHogs
- Commanders
- RedWolves
- Defenders
- WFT

 

 

Four of which have a military bearing.

 

RedWolves was the first choice but some trademark issues I guess.

 

I liked WFT.

 

And I guess the Washington Plantation (Candielanders?), which is in essence what an NFL franchise is, wasn't going to fly.

 

Commanders has a bit too much of a Civil War feel, and no nickname possibility? The "Ders"?

 

Meanwhile Dan Snyder's still the owner so they'll still suck.
