Popular Post spidermike007
Topics to be covered in the classes. 1. Do not ask for bribes. It is not nice. It is not honorable. 2. Report the local police if they ask for money. We will address this immediately. Thailand is too noble for this sort of thing. 3. Do not do business with people who ask for bribes. We promised to clean the place up, when Prayuth took office, remember? He is very sincere. And that is why corruption is declining. However, we don't know why all the world studies are showing the opposite. 4. Corruption is bad. It degrades the soul. Do not do it! OK, now everything is going to be better. So glad we held these classes. Edited February 19, 2022 by spidermike007 1

That is something that should be taught.

jingjai9
I think Thais face the same challenge fighting corruption that Americans face trying to combat gun violence. Both are deeply rooted in the culture for so long that it is virtually impossible to extinguish. Any marked improvement could be seen as progress. We can't forget: corruption is convenient when it is working for you.

Most normal people don't benefit they just lose out. That is something that should be taught. In Thailand that is not true, corruption allows farmers to burn whatever they want when they want. Corruption allows all people with houses/buildings to build into the public domain and ignore regulations such as distance between buildings needed to have a window. Corruption allows everyone to drive cars or motornbikes without a test. Corruption in Thailand is a two way street, or perhaps a motorway. The amounts and benefits vary, depending larely on the investment. The big boys invest many years and billions (Baht) in developing relationships and projects and expect to make this back. The small people pay a few hundred and are able to live life unfettered by big government regulations and bureaucracy. The French would love to be able to pass a 100 euro note across the administrators desk and actually receive a smile instead of a snarl. Being given a building permit or allowed to register for health care without 26 pieces of paper would be well worth paying. The way to get rid of corruption is to reduce the civil service to a minimum, about 3 per province, and remove all regulations.

greeneking
'Self-Sufficiency Against Corruption was formally opened by the Office of the National Counter Corruption Commission (NACC) in Prachuap Khiri Khan.' I hope visitors will ask why this office seems to do very little work and wonder why they should put their necks on the line while the experts avoid making problems for themselves.
