Bringing UK iPhone to Thailand

Featured Replies

My friend will be bringing his older iPhone (IOS 12.5.5) after terminating his SIM contract in the UK.  Can he simply go to AIS shop and get a new SIM?  Best to do in Bangkok or the airport?  Thanks.

No problem.

Most phones are global. Only slight differences in wavelengths used in some countries, but should be OK here.

I have used several UK iPhones here. In fact I am using one at the moment and my last three or four iPhones were UK bought on trips home and used here without any problems.

Personally I would go to one of the bigger provider stores in the malls in Bangkok. They are dealing with lots of foreigners and  probably  know more about the  deals available.

HTH

Bigger stores won't have a clue as to what is available. Conversely it is the smaller independents who will have the deals.

Ask at a big store about the latest unlimited 30 Mbps for 265 baht deal and observe their quizzical looks. They likely won't have a clue.

They might know about the unlimited 20 Mbps for 300 baht; but likely not either.

Airport SIM might be a Tourist SIM. Better to get a normal SIM or try applying *777*498# to a standard 49 baht Tourist SIM before topping up. Only then should you top up and apply the code for the data plan that you want.

He will be using wi-fi for internet so I think just needs One-2-Call for any voice calls.
