Thailand on Tuesday (March 22) reported 21,382 new COVID-19 cases, 24,842 recoveries and 83 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

Tuesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 3,398,814 with 24,417 deaths.

The news comes as the Department of Disease Control (DDC) has urged the senior citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19 ahead of the Songkran festival, citing statistics indicating increased fatalities among the elderly.

Health officials expressed concern over an increase in severe cases and fatalities among people in this group as a result of possible infections occurring during home visits by family members in April to celebrate the traditional new year festival.

According to DDC data, only 4.2 million senior citizens had received their booster shots as of Saturday, compared to 10 million who had received their second jab. 2.1 million elderly people have yet to receive any COVID injections whatsoever.*

Newly reported official COVID cases dipped for a fourth consecutive day to 21,382 on Tuesday, which is common for reports based on early week Monday data, while the numbers of serious cases in hospital (1,484) and intubated patients (532) both rose to set new record highs for the year.

Newly reported COVID deaths of 83 declined by five from the record high 88 yearly tally reported on Monday. The total number of current COVID cases under care (hospitals and alternate arrangements) of 236,814 declined from Monday's yearly record high 240,339 total.

Tuesday's update from the Ministry of Public Health continued a recent pattern of new COVID case numbers declining on the weekends and early in the week, only then to rise to new highs as the week progresses.

Tuesday's tally of 21,382 official new COVID cases also was an 8.3% increase from the 19,742 reported last Tuesday.

The combination of Tuesday's official new COVID cases plus the 13,220 new unofficial cases reported via positive ATK tests hit a total of 34,602, up 5.6% from the comparable 32,750 tally from last Tuesday.

For added context, during the peak of the Delta wave last fall, Thailand's daily COVID case count topped out at 23,418, but the numbers of serious hospital cases and intubated patients peaked above 5,600 and 1,100 respectively, and daily deaths topped 300 for a brief period.

Yeah we have seen that whit many athlete! Many of them are totaly healty and not spread covid anymore but they cant join to racing coz has tested positive after weeks from infection! Here in Finland that 5 days has been in use long time already. And now coming many Ukrainian refugee here , some folks was worried that they bring here covid. So head doctors say, that dont chance anything we already have that much here! Thailand should think also rational and watch the big picture, coming tourist not chance situation way or other infected or not!

Forum member @Eaglekott 's list of the top Thailand provinces for COVID cases based on Monday's new cases data, ranked by per capita rate of cases (per 100,000 population). Rayong, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phuket are all in the top 10 for this tally.

The full list of all the ranked provinces is listed in his running thread on the subject at:

Well, this is interesting after the 454 cases from yesterday. And it does not get anywhere near the figures from locals in the know in Bang Saphan. But hey ho.

Health officials on Tuesday (Mar 22) reported 267 new COVID-19 cases in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, of which 78 cases were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 79 cases were found in Pranburi, 8 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 1 case in Kuiburi, 9 cases in Thap Sakae, 18 cases in Bang Saphan, 1 case in Bang Saphan Noi, and 72 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

No new COVID-19 related deaths were reported in the province today.

Essentially again we are looking at weekend testing numbers from Sunday here, the true issue is the hospitalizations, ventilators, and the deaths.  Lets see what tomorrows numbers bring.  On a side note, the CDC in the US has issued new guidelines for clearing Covid and when you can go out and about after testing positive. Thailand wants to have visitors but with the info I was given by my Daughter, that you can still test positive for weeks and months after having cleared covid, the new waiving of pre-flight testing does little for those that could test positive on arrival.

The CDC is saying that after 5 days you can clear isolation and should still wear a mask for the next 5 day or until all symptoms have stopped.  Additionally, folks are still testing positive for weeks if not months after having Covid.  Even though double vaccinated and then boosted as well as having Covid, like I myself do now, the chances of them testing positive on arrival and being forced into a facility of some type is a deal breaker for many of the people I knw from the US.  No, they will not have a doctors certificate saying they had covid because many of them, though they may have reported it, never saw a doctor and just isolated at home until they cleared the symptoms.  Many countries have opened up completely, Thailand on the other hand will not see the resurgence of travelers until they do as nobody wants to be caught with a positive test on arrival who has had Covid.  This will definitely be something I have to look at should I decide to travel back to the US and then return home here.

The Authorities are saying that the " Deltacron Variant " is not yet in Thailand.

With the number of Fatalities rising Daily, along with the Hospitalizations, there definitely seems something wrong, as " Omicron " is supposed to be very mild.

The Vaccination numbers for the Elderly Citizens is truly appalling, and this surely is not helping the serious case numbers.

Regarding Deltacron............

To be clear, almost all infectious disease experts — Dr. Cherian and Dr. Mourani included — say that the likelihood of being impacted by Deltacron strains as of March 2022 is next to none. The dominant strain here in the U.S. remains Omicron, and COVID-19 spread is largely occurring among those who have yet to be vaccinated.

Just as with previous virus variants before it, Deltacron is expected to present many of the same symptoms and side effects for those who face a COVID-19 illness. It is not expected that Deltacron strains will produce new, unheard-of symptoms — and experts are reaffirming that its recombinant gene structure means that vaccines and immune systems are well equipped to deal with any potential exposure in the future. The best way to prevent being impacted by Deltacron, as well as any other virus variant, is to get vaccinated and keep up to date on your COVID-19 boosters.
