Duolingo, the world's leading language learning app, said Vietnam is its largest market in Southeast Asia but it is yet to monetize its products.

Haina Xiang, its head of marketing for China and Southeast Asia, said the number of active users in Vietnam grew by 67 percent a month in the year since Jan. 2021.

Vietnam "has far outpaced other markets in a brief time," she said, adding that the number of active users in the country in 2022 has doubled year-on-year.

Around 6 percent of Duolingo’s 40 million monthly active users have signed up for it to download lessons and skip ads.

The American company reported revenues of $250 million last year, up 55 percent from 2020, and said gross profits nearly tripled to $60 million.

According to Duolingo’s statistics, English and Chinese are the most popular courses on its platform in Vietnam.

Users spend an average of 17.6 minutes a day on the app, usually at 9-10 p.m.
