Thailand on Friday (March 25) reported 26,050 new COVID-19 cases, 22,219 recoveries and 69 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

Friday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 3,477,030 with 24,648 deaths.

The news comes as the Thai Medical Services Department signed an agreement with Pfizer (Thailand) yesterday (Thursday) to procure 50,000 courses (2 million tablets) of the Paxlovid anti-viral medicine for the treatment of COVID-19.

The delivery of the drug is expected in mid-April.

Director-General of the department Dr. Somsak Akksilp said that the oral medication can reduce the risk of hospitalisation and death in severe COVID-19 cases by about 88%, if administered within five days of first symptoms being detected, according to clinical trials.**

Are the numbers truly dropping, is this an anomaly, or are they trying to make it look good for Songkran travel and the BMA now wanting to open up water splashing events on Khao San Rd....

Today marks a turning point as far as the way things may or may not be handled.  Why is this government so hell bent on ordering all of these medications is indeed this is waning.

Numbers of cases here in the village is going crazy. Wifey and daughter tested positive for covid last Sunday although both are feeling fine now. Daughter who is 4 years old was back to normal after 36 hours but Sunday was a little worrying when her temperature went up to 40c. Wifey had an intermittent cough and felt a little fatigue and that was it. I've tested negative, feel fine and am confined to gardening duties and the spare bedroom.

We had a visit from staff at the local health center yesterday and they said there were 20 extra cases just that day and this is a village of 1500.

Many of wifeys friends, who she hasn't been in contact with recently, are also testing positive along with all their families.

There's also been a couple of deaths in the family too, elderly and with pre-existing conditions but contracting covid finished them off.

Experience and info from local medical staff and our own seems to indicate it's running rampant right now.

The anecdotal evidence is overwhelming right now that the numbers this government posts are just a small percentage.  The GF's co-teachers at her school salon/barbershop have all in the past few days come down with Covid and the shop has now been closed. Thats 5 teachers and then 20 students that in the past week have become ill.  The GF stopped working there on the 1st after my return from the US and was supposed to return next week after a month break.  One of her friends has just called her and let her know the above which I posted.....they have not reported the illnesses either and are self isolating.  It will get worse before it gets better

You're right, it absolutely rampant and the official figures are a complete sham. Daughter's got it, turn's out that she caught it from travelling back from a football match at another school. The majority of the team who were in the mini bus have tested positive. She had a rough night last night with high fever sweats and chills, still asleep now. She's been double vaxxed with pfizer.

Now just waiting to see if I get it.

Official dashboard not updated yet today so no idea what the ATK count was yesterday.

Chonburi announces 1,090 new and confirmed cases of Covid-19 and one new death.

Highlights:

1,090 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Chonburi today

6,579 positive ATK (rapid antigen) tests were reported but all require a second confirmed PCR test before being counted as official cases. The ATK positive tests are just “possible” cases until confirmed by PCR. TPN notes, however, that second confirmed tests are no longer mandatory except for high-risk groups.

886 (PCR) and 3,307 (ATK) recovered and were released from medical care

One new death

Nothings changing, they just detected less cases in one day, it's meaningless unless it's sustained over time and a trend emerges.

You need moving averages over multiple weeks or at least 7 days at the very least to detect a change in direction.

I don’t belief this numbers. Also Omicron is a light flu , but all is to make Money.Scary the people and you can control them better. We hear nothing from the yearly Influenza anymore. Is it gone? No more existing? Maybe here Name is now Omicron?  new name  B2? In Spring now B2? What will be the Name for the Influenza in Fall? It will go on and on as long People are scared and belief.

It's not a light flu, there is a world of difference between influenza and any coronavirus.

As for why a coronavirus infection can prevent an influenza infection a lot of the time then there's a world of reading out there but it is a thing.

If Thailand is spiking in COVID cases, it is not alone. Anyone want to holiday in Hong Kong, or

China, Russia, Ukraine, or other affected, infected countries, even the USA still has lots of new cases

every day and pe3ople still dying every day, even from this mild Omicron strain.

Maybe with the high season of 2021 - 2022 is over, we should all stay home and look forward to the

next high season. IMO.

Remember it is only mild if your vaccinated and boosted and even then it is killing vaccinated folks, so calling it mild is a misnomer. It's still deadly
