Police and rescue services responded to a 191 call about a truck carrying bales of straw ablaze on the Mae Sot to Tha Song Yang road in Tak north west Thailand.

A large number of bales had been jettisoned from the flaming Hino and it took firemen an hour to damp down all the bales.

Bunmee, 66, the driver said he was taking animal feed from Sukhothai to Mae Sot, reported Sanook.

He blamed two workers sitting on the bales for causing the fire by smoking.

Still, he looked on the bright side - everyone escaped with their lives and there was not much damage done to the trusty old truck.

All three were charged with negligence, however.

Many years ago driving a highway in Texas, a pickup truck putting a large flatbed full of household items.....a mattress on top, was ablaze.  Having been a smoker myself, I couldn't help but wonder if the driver flicked out his cigarette only to have it blown into the flatbed.  A few sparks at 60 mph and there you have it.

straw ablaze

Geeze, this straw is destructive.

It took out a 30M baht Bentley recently.
