Popular Post Mr Meeseeks
12 hours ago, Mrfox said: It is the tourist responsibility to know the local customs and laws (you don't have to be lawyer) in the country you're visiting. For example, weed is legal in some states and Canada, try crossing into Malaysia and Indonesia with it,they hang you. The local customs are water fights on Songkran, indeed that is why many of them come at this specific time of year. I doubt tourists are concerned with warnings about water fights, and the 'laws' are applied arbitrarily under emergency decrees and other authoritarian junta-inspired nonsense designed to be vague and keep the population compliant. If you think backpackers travelling around the region on a gap year care to keep advised of this nonsense you are sadly mistaken. These idiotic, arbitrary laws and the dinosaurs in charge have managed to completely destroy the Thai tourism economy in a matter of two years. How many lives have been ruined, how many suicides, how many mental illnesses and how many families and businesses destroyed? Let's start asking the real pertinent questions. FYI Thailand has the death penalty for drug smuggling also, so is no different than Malaysia or Indo in that regard, other than appointing a convicted heroin smuggler to a deputy ministerial post in the government, even against their own laws, but then again he was a Thai gangster and alleged murderer with connections, not a nasty backpacking foreigner.

You are just a bleeding heart looking for a place to vent your frustrations. The I got here in 93 bit ... gives you away. Back on topic... The Thais are more than happy that falang join in because it then gives them a scapegoat for the water splashing, I've no idea why you've got a chip on your shoulder. Anyone with an ounce of integrity would have apologized for being wrong, but you have another attack. Thank Buddha I won't see any more of your posts. ???? But subject to confiscation Given that there is next to no water fighting anywhere in Thailand at the moment except at a couple of places that were toId to stop, I doubt that any tourist is not aware of the ban, regardless of their language. Which officially organised Songkran water fight events were cancelled at short notice? Water guns are not subject to confiscation unless they're being used for illegal water fights, perhaps. Expand "At the moment" being after the event , therefore irrelevant. Just as your previous post was. There are places in Thailand that, in normal circumstances, celebrate Songkran a week or so after the official dates. So much for your "after the event, therefore irrelevant" comment. Highly pertinent, given that the title of this thread concerns tourists in the Khao San Road.
