Not true.   In Japan, to save face, I have been involved where senior employees have not been terminated but transferred to a nonexistent position and their pay remains at the current level until retirement.

ser, don't let the truth get in the way of a good Thai bash ????

Talk about a big nothing burger. These guys were transferred not because it happened. They were transferred because the event was publicized and the region's police got egg on their faces.

The event was about playing with water. Which is about as dangerous as drinking beer or wine at a restaurant. None of this has anything to do with Covid, really. The ignorance surrounding the throwing of water ranks right up there with the ignorance relating to the wearing of masks on motorbikes. What can one say?

And inactive duty for 30 days? I guess that is a financial penalty, as they are not able to ply their trade.

Many of you still use Western salaries in your thinking when dealing with Thai events.

No Thai cop can afford to live just on their salary.  The income from corruption is calculated into their earnings.

If they get put on "inactive" they cannot collect their weekly graft from their territories because other "active" cops are now collecting the money.

And I suspect that they still have to "kick-up" money to their superiors to keep their jobs, even though they have no income stream.

This seems to be very harsh punishment indeed.  These aren't generals making millions but foot soldiers with no chance of advancement.
