Two Africans arrested - they were mixed up in "Kong River" gang Romance Scam

Thai Region 1 immigration announced the arrest of two African men who they believe were part of a gang called "Kong River" - a Romance Scam group preying on Thai, Laotian and Myanmar women.

 

This followed investigative work by many agencies including drug suppression groups.

 

Arrested were Joel, 22, from Cameroon and 27 year old Silla from Senegal. 

 

A search of their room in the Nawamin area of Khannayao, Bangkok, found no drugs or signs of illegal activity.

 

Until their mobile phones were checked.

On the phones was evidence that the pair had used What's App, Messenger and Line posing as rich foreigners to con women.

 

But so far they had not convinced any of their potential victims to part with any money.

 

But they had Joel on 1,087 days overstay and Silla did not even have a passport.

The former was charged with overstay and the latter with illegal entry. Both were detained ahead of their deportation. 

 

Siam Rath reported on the case mentioning the names of many policemen and agencies involved in the case.

Their rhetoric also included references to PM Prayuth Chan-ocha and DPM Prawit Wongsuwan as insisting on policies to keep foreigners residing in Thailand and foreign tourists safe. 

 

They called the suspects "phew see" or having colored skin.

On every flim-flam and con men they catch many others are still out there causing damage on the millions, no punishment is too harsh for them...

As Thais appear to be extremely gullible in this area, the Africans really must be pretty useless at it.

 

I would say deport them, but they'd simply change their names and be back next month

Why would anyone give access to their mobile phones?
