1-0 as Vietnam beat Malaysia in extra time to enter SEA Games final

Featured Replies

The only goal by Nguyen Tien Linh in extra time helped Vietnam claim victory over Malaysia in an intense SEA Games 31 semifinal reported VN Express.

Before the game, both Vietnam and Malaysia head coaches wanted to finish the game in 90 minutes. But that didn’t happen.

In an intense match where Vietnam showed difficulty in finding a way to score and Malaysia put up a solid defense, no goals were allowed in the official time.

Nguyen Tien Linh had two clear chances in the first half as he faced keeper Azri Ghani but couldn’t beat him. Malaysia tried to counterattack, but rarely caused trouble for Vietnam defenders.

In the second half, there were not many chances for both sides as the stamina started running out. Many players were so tired and couldn’t continue playing after the second half ended.

During the first 15 minutes of extra time, Vietnam only got one relevant chance when defender Bui Hoang Viet Anh missed his shot inside the box.

Then five minutes into the second extra time, Viet Tri Stadium exploded after Tien Linh scored. He jumped higher than any other player in the box and headed it in.

The remaining time saw Vietnam slowing down and protect the precious lead until the final whistle.

Vietnam will play Thailand for the gold medal on Sunday.
