webfact
Daily News Thai Caption: Hit and run! Daily News reported on a horrendous accident involving a truck and a school pick-up taking students home in Trat, eastern Thailand, yesterday. Two students were thrown out onto the road suffering serious injuries. The truck overturned. The trucker initially stayed at the scene but as many parents arrived he fled (presumably on foot, notes ASEAN NOW). Police captain Nakhin Sirikun of the Mai Rut police in Khlong Yai responded to the accident on Sukhumvit Road. Two pupils in M3 and M4 (third and fourth years of secondary) were thrown out and were taken to Khlong Yai Hospital with grievous injuries. The rest of the students, about ten, suffered minor injuries. The truck - with Chanthaburi plates - had overturned. Phisit, 40, the pick-up driver who was uninjured said that he was taking the students home yesterday when the truck behind him started tailgating at speed. When it overtook him it sideswiped his vehicle causing him to lose control though he managed not to overturn. Two students sitting at the back were thrown out onto the tarmac while another fell out as he came to a stop. A student confirmed this version of events saying after the collision it was all a blur. Capt Nakhin said that the trucker was initially at the scene when he arrived but as many parents began to arrive he feared danger and fled the scene. "Rest assured," said the captain, "We will find and prosecute him". -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. trainman34014
Running away from responsibility in Thailand is par for the course; as is lousy driving. The School Truck looks well past its sell by date before the 'accident' occurred and i would bet if it was inspected by 'proper' Ministry of Transport Engineers it would be condemed to the scrap heap instead of being allowed to carry Children ! 1 1

Popular Post OldPedro
I thought the Government passed an edict to stop passengers riding on the back tray of pick up trucks. Thailand are so far behind the civilised world on this sort of thing, it's ridiculous...... 4 1

Thailand
"When it overtook him it sideswiped his vehicle causing him to lose control though he managed not to overturn."? I guess no seat belts in the school bus?

I once saw a group of 8 locals kick the <deleted> out of a drunk motorbike rider that hit a little girl. So many that they politely waited their turns kicking him as he lay on the ground. There is little chance the truck driver will evade the cops - I imagine he'd just rather take his chances with the cops than have a bunch of angry parents stop his ass on the side of the road ????

He then fled on foot, probably fearing for his safety. Possibly a wise move on his part, what with a crowd of angry parents or the police, most people would also. It wasn't perhaps the best move, but certainly the safest for him.

These school pick ups are not a flat bed, they have seats just like all 'Baht busses' but are sometimes overcrowded with kids standing on the rear step hanging on. They are the only Taxis in Trat and Koh Chang.

Well that just shows that No one cares for Any Law and Lives. This universal thinking will never stop unless there is a 24/7 policing of all Laws . This is not going to happen in any coming Decade soon.
bristolgeoff
Everyone knows people or children will be in the back of a pickup.even if the law says no.Just like school kids riding bikes home from school, knowing they are underage and no helmet often. This is thailand and things change slowly
