No masks outdoors to be proposed by new Bangkok Governor

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has announced that he will propose that that the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) allow people in the capital to remove their face masks when outdoors, as daily new COVID-19 infections are decreasing and the economy is recovering.

 

Currently, face masks are required outside of one’s home, including in schools and workplaces.

 

Similarly, the Public Health Ministry may propose to the CCSA that it allows people not to wear face masks outdoors, which may be applied in COVID-19 Blue and Green zones. The blue zone, or tourism “sandbox” zones, include 17 provinces such as Bangkok, Krabi and Chonburi, while the green zones include 14 provinces such as Nan, Phichit and Chainat.

So much going on behind the scene.

Chadchart Sittipunt is making a lot of people restless,this guy is getting things done!

I hope he can keep this up,a fresh wind blowing thru Bangkok and maybe later even all

of Thailand.

I suggest he will also work on real fresh air.

Unfortunately the fact that he's asking for the change, means the 'Government' will not do it.

Aren't most Bangkokians unilaterally stopping mask wearing in outdoor areas?  It's noticeably declined out here in Rayong.

Make it voluntary if people wish to use them in crowded places or transport.

Outdoors, yes.  Zones make no sense.

 

Indoors, it only works if everyone wears them   Masks were never for self protection, they were to protect others from ourselves - so voluntary also makes no sense.

 

I think masks on public transport, and that's it.

Absolutely not - compliance is close to 100%, other than among foreign men.

Actually better quality masks are useful for self protection. You're spouting dated dogma.

'Actually' ..... very few people will wear a properly fitted N95 or better mask in Thai heat.  But feel free to spout your wisdom to the uneducated masses.

Fit is an issue especially with N95s. I see many people wearing what look like better quality masks here but of course impossible to know if genuine by appearance. I personally upgraded my mask game when Omicron started which was official mainstream advice. I was talking about self protection with these better masks. They can help with that. To be clear I think Thailand should end outdoor mask requirements but keep them for public indoor spaces.
