Ta Quang Chien, who worked as bodyguard for President Ho Chi Minh for 12 years, has passed away at the age of 98 reported VN Express.

His family announced that he died at his home in Hanoi on Saturday.

Chien was born Nguyen Huu Van in 1925 in the central province of Thanh Hoa.

He began participating in revolutionary movements when he was 18.

In late 1945, he was chosen to work for President Ho Chi Minh.

He had joined a team to protect the president during his trip to other provinces in northern Vietnam.

In 1947, the late president named him Ta Quang Chien.

He worked as a bodyguard for the president for 12 years and was the last person to serve in that position.

In 1960, he worked as Director of the Research Department of Party History and then Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union.

Later, he became General Director of Physical Training and Sports (now a unit under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).

He was a member of the 7th National Assembly, Vietnam’s parliament, between 1981 and 1987.

His funeral will be held Tuesday morning at the National Funeral Home at 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi.
