Many many marriages in Thailand are Marriages without having gone through the process of registering the Marriage at the Amphur office. i.e. People have the Engagement ceremony in the morning, wedding ceremony in the evening and go through the whole process of getting married.... thats good enough for many - they are married. Example: My Wife and I went through the Engagement and Wedding ceremony at the hotel etc... Then we signed at the Amphur office on our return from our honeymoon.... I'm good friends with the beautiful lady and she has told me that she is not married, she only has one passport (Thai) with her Thai name. She's told her friends a lie... It's the cultural norm for people who have had Wedding ceremonies to believe they are married, to live as if they are married to refer to each other as husband and wife, yet legally they are not... But that doesn’t stop people from saying they are married when asked - I know of many such couples in Thailand. In this case (SAFET FIRST) ,the girl's friends have said the girl is married, they may have attended the wedding ceremony etc... Yet when pressed and asked the question if she has a wedding certificate the girl in question answers know. This is perhaps the reason for the contradicting responses. IF someone doesn’t know of the culturally accepted (but not legally) married status, then they really need to get out and about more.

huangnon
Not heard much from Nong Natt for a while, so I did a bit of a search... Quote Last but not least, to the shock of her fans all over the world, Nat has gone lesbian as she revealed her new sweetheart on Instagram on Wednesday — a younger Vietnamese girl. Nat wrote, “She’s only 24 — nine years younger than me. I never thought I’d be dating such a lovely and beautiful girl. She came in when my heart needed someone, who has true feelings for me and respects me. From now on, I have to work hard, save money, and fly to you every month. #MyLittleVietnameseGirl.” Pure comedy gold, with nice t!ts. ???? OMG, marriage without a document, she nearly convinced me, the Thais are beautiful, what the hell does that mean, married but has no marriage certificate? ???? They know how to twist everything to suit them. I 'll jump in now as well. You are the one who brouht up the remark (in your last sentance) "married but has no marriage certificate" . Many Thai including a former Prime Minister stated they are married but never registerd at an amphur. Many have the village "blessing cerimony" which everyone considers gettting married but untill notifying the Amphur it's not. Some register the marriage years later, I did and so have many others. We are legally married now with documents but did it years after the marriage cerimony. Some never do it unless they need to get a marriage visa or other official stuff. Many have made that mistake, having some monks chant and trail string all around the place, the old crones drool over a tray of money and gold, followed by some food and a few beers isn't official, in fact it can be official without that expensive bit. Legal Amphur marriage is about the money it means that the wife can inherit automatically, in many cases a non legal wife cannot inherit a survivors pension from your pension fund. If you haven't made a will all your property and money will go to your nearest relative not your Thai wife she will have no claim on your 'estate' and be left destitute on your death unless she has a good job. Then you take that to MFA = Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be translated/notorized. Then take that to the Amphur to get a marriage certificate. Pay extra and and get the big book one (Fancy) When applying for marriage visa take wife, marriage certificate, financcial documents, passport, wife's ID, ect to Immigration. Google "marriage registration in Thailand for foreigners" and " Thai marriage certificate" for info.
