Police Apprehend Drugged Man Who Trespassed & Disrupted Guests at Resort: Ubon Ratchathani
Police in Ubon Ratchathani were called to a local resort in the Jaramae sub-district after receiving reports of a man, suspected to be under the influence of drugs, scaling the resort’s walls and causing chaos. The incident began when the unidentified man, described as being between 30 and 35 years old, entered the premises, disrupted guests, and locked himself in one of the rooms. The situation was reported by a 30-year-old resort employee. She stated that she first heard cries for help coming from the rear of the property. Upon investigation, she found the man, shirtless, wearing wet black trousers, and speaking incoherently. Suspecting he was intoxicated, she sought assistance from nearby guests, who helped pull him over the wall. The man then ran into a guest’s room and proceeded to take a shower. This startled the room’s occupant, who opted to vacate and move to another accommodation. After his shower, the man entered another adjacent room, locking himself inside. Fearing further disruption, the employee contacted the police for assistance. Responding officers from the 191 Emergency Unit, led by Sub-Lieutenant Ruangsak Rungrueng, attempted to coax the man out by knocking on the door, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Reinforcements were called, and the team used a spare key to enter the room. The suspect was found wearing only a towel, wrapped in a blanket, with scratches on his body, likely from thorns in the forest behind the resort. The man refused to cooperate, declining to answer questions, undergo a drug test, or reveal the location of the keys to a white Honda car with Yasothon plates found nearby. Police had the car towed to the Muang Ubon Ratchathani Police Station for further investigation. Inside the room, officers discovered a pair of wet black trousers and black thong-style underwear. No personal documents, luggage, or other belongings were found. The man was arrested on charges of public disturbance and taken into custody to calm down. Fire Incident at Thonburi Remand Prison Quickly Contained
A fire broke out on the morning of November 22, at Thonburi Remand Prison, located on Ekachai Road, Bang Bon Tai Subdistrict, Bang Bon District. The Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department’s Bang Khun Thian Station responded promptly after being alerted via hotline 199 at approximately 10:30. Firefighters arrived at the scene at in just under 10 minutes and identified the blaze within a three-story building on the prison premises. The building is a 4 storey residential block for staff and their families. Smoke was observed emanating from the second floor of the structure. All persons had been safety evacuated from the building. Emergency personnel quickly began containment efforts, and within 10 minutes the fire had been successfully extinguished. No injuries were reported from the fire. Authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire, but stress at no time were any staff or prisoners in danger and the prison’s emergency plan was initiated correctly. File photo courtesy: TNA-MCOT Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who returned home after 15 years in self-imposed exile, footed the bill for his entire six-month stay at the Police General Hospital amid allegations of privileged treatment. Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong confirmed these details during a House committee inquiry into claims that Thaksin received preferential healthcare as a prisoner. The inquiry follows suspicions his transfer to the hospital from Bangkok Remand Prison was less about health concerns and more about avoiding incarceration. According to Minister Tawee, Thaksin paid 8,500 baht per night for his private room and covered all medical expenses. Despite the hospital’s involvement in the universal healthcare programme he introduced as Prime Minister, Thaksin chose to pay out of pocket. Thaksin, who returned to Thailand on 22 August 2023, was sentenced to an eight-year prison term, later reduced to one year through a royal pardon, for abuse of power and conflict of interest during his time as Prime Minister before 2006. On his first night in the Bangkok Remand Prison, corrections doctors determined his medical condition required a transfer. Minister Tawee disclosed Thaksin’s hospitalization was justified due to a “complex” condition, too challenging for prison facilities. He had received all of Thaksin’s medical records, including payment receipts, but stressed these documents could only be released with Thaksin’s consent. The committee sought transparency about who authorized his transfer and the specific health reasons, citing the public's right to know. Despite public scrutiny, Minister Tawee maintained Thaksin’s stay and guarded hospital room adhered to safety protocols, given past assassination attempts, with full visitor logs available for review, reported Bangkok Post. -- 2024-11-23
