BANGKOK: Thai scientists are developing an anti-viral nasal spray that could stop COVID-19 infections by neutralising the coronavirus when it enters the nose.

The spray is currently in the research and development phase.

It is a joint development by public and private sectors, including the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, which discovered the antibody used in the prototype.

“We conducted research and discovered antibodies, which are the immunity created by the human body to stop COVID-19,” said Assistant Professor Dr Nakarin Sirisabya from the Faculty of Medicine.

Earlier this year I read an article from Australia where they found that a blood thinning medication that is administered by IV when converted into a spray stopped Covid cold.

Conversion and production facilities were being constructed with product planned for release in the next couple of months

Dunno what exact chemical method the Thais are pursuing... But in terms of the general anti-COVID nasal spray approach, the Australians already beat them to it by a long ways....  Though just how well the product works seems to be a matter of some dispute:

Australian COVID nasal spray not on shop shelves amid TGA dispute

"Starpharma started developing its nasal spray Viraleze in 2020 as a preventative tool against coronavirus, to be used alongside vaccination.

Viraleze has since been launched into several overseas markets, but the company does not yet have clearance to sell the spray in Australia."

...

The company also voluntarily paused in-store sales of Viraleze in the United Kingdom after its medicines regulator asked questions about the promotional claims the company was making on packaging for the nasal spray."

Great if it protects.  But the article headline is misleading.  They realistically  didn’t develop anything yet.

....and what of any nasty influenza strains that make their run annually throughout the world - causing a similar percentage of deaths and whatnot.

The same therapeutic effect can be achieved by spraying nail polish up both nostrils.
