CharlieH Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Last month, US President Joe Biden signed a landmark gun-control bill into law. While the legislation, which was passed with bipartisan support, has many limits, it was a step in America's efforts to tackle escalating gun violence. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court issued a decision that cast the future of more strict limits on gun ownership in doubt. So where does gun control go from here? Here's a look at some solutions that gun-control advocates and gun-rights proponents say could help stop escalating gun violence - and our North America correspondent Anthony Zurcher assesses their chances. The future of red flag laws Red flag laws, also known as Extreme Risk Protection Orders, allow police to temporarily seize legally owned guns from people who a judge has ruled to be a danger to themselves or others. wombat Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 The one thing in common all these crazies have is the need for recognition using social media doing the macho thing showing their perceived audience weapons. The algorithms used could be tweaked to recognize firearms. A red flag goes up and that info is passed to a real person who can inform authorities that a visit and a chat are in order. 1

Popular Post Lacessit Posted July 15, 2022 Popular Post Posted July 15, 2022 It will be business as usual, gun sales will increase after every mass shooting. IMO Americans are incapable of understanding there are other nations who allow gun ownership, while reducing the risk of massacres. Those countries do not permit weapons that have the sole purpose of killing people as quickly and efficiently as possible. It's called common sense. 4 2
Popular Post vandeventer Posted July 15, 2022 Popular Post Posted July 15, 2022 Gun control in America will never happen, as there are just too many guns that are legal and illegal. And not enough police to enforce them ,thanks to the great Dem. policy's. 4 1 2
Bkk Brian Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Another day another gun death with tragic consequences: Five-year-old boy shoots dead his eight-year-old brother in 'tragic accident' at US home Officers investigating the death said it could have been avoided if the gunowner had "properly secure their firearms". https://news.sky.com/story/five-year-old-boy-shoots-dead-his-eight-year-old-brother-in-tragic-accident-at-us-home-12652744
pegman Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 I expect something like a rollback of the machine gun ban by the SCOTUS as they are not mentioned in the Constitution 2
Joe Mama Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 The new gun law legislation in America is just a basic band aid measure! The only thing that will end the carnage in America is to ban the private ownership of all military assault weapons! No citizen needs to own these types of weapons...there would still be plenty of other weapons available for personal protection and/or hunting! Unfortunately we will never be able to keep guns away from the angry/crazy folks, nor can the police do a damn thing to prevent a determined mass shooter! As long as these weapons are available for legal purchase they will continue to be a threat to human life in America at schools, churches, concerts, sporting events, shopping malls, or wherever groups of folks congregate!

Hanuman2547 Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 The US Republican party will fight tooth and nail to stop any type of restrictions on firearms. It is a core value of their political platform. 2

Popular Post rudi49jr Posted July 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted July 16, 2022 A (vast) majority of people in the USA who are in favor of tighter gun control are held hostage by a minority of gun nuts and (mainly) Republican representatives, who are scared to death to lose the votes of that minority. I think Republican congresswoman Debbie Lesko phrased the insanity best when she said she would shoot her own grandchildren to keep them safe. That has to be the dumbest thing that ever came out of the mouth of a representative, and that’s saying something, with intellectual heavyweights like Marjory Taylor Green and Lauren Boebert to compete with. 4

You know, in a time before trump people would have been outraged if someone said that and they would have been booted from office. Now it's an almost daily occurrence. The MAGA crowd have voted their preferred deplorables into office and the US of A is slowly but surely turning into a dumpster fire. 1
