Pattaya — An Indian tourist said his gold necklace worth 30,000 baht was stolen by what he believed was a transgender individual while he was on a late night out alone at Pattaya Beach.

The Indian victim, Mr. Karthikeyan, 43, came to the Pattaya Police Station to report to Pol. Capt. Sombat Kaewmunmuk that his gold necklace weighing 80 grams and worth 30,000 baht was snatched while he was strolling and enjoying the scenery of Pattaya Beach at around 11:30 PM on Friday, July 22nd, alone.

There was no suggestion in the article that the Indian tourist was associating with the ladyboy. The ladyboy could have just been walking down the same sidewalk, grab the necklace, and ran.

I do think wearing such expensive items while out in public is dangerous. Items like these should be saved for parties or special nights out, or, as I do, not possess them at all.

This gentleman obviously did not read the instruction manual entitled "How to make a claim that a ladyboy stole your jewelry" where it clearly states in the box marked value, that you enter 100,000 Baht.

You can can say anything about people form India, but stupid the're not, this gold recklessness is nothing but a scam, giving Thailand's lovely lady boys a bad name...

Well that statement alone must indicate he perhaps is one for stretching the truth ????

Current price of gold per gram is $55.45 (2033Bt) so 80g is worth 162668Bt in scrap value alone.

Even if it was just 9ct gold, it works out at 61000Bt. Maybe it just looked a bit like gold....

Perhaps just a fake claim and the Indian didn't actually consider the veracity of what he was claiming to have had stolen when he reported it to the police.

I am not yet convinced it is all an insurance scam, having seen a few Indians indeed wearing what appeared to be expensive gold chains walking about here. Although they are an internet savvy lot, and you would think the word would be out that it is not a good idea.

Yes more stories like this will surely help the govt achieve their goal of 10,000,000 tourists this year.

I can see the headlines in Bangalor, go visit amazing Thailand and experience getting your gold snatched on the pristine beach by a ladyboy!

Or alternatively go visit Thailand.  Worried about feeding your family on the 15000 baht spent on the visit your family think is a business trip within India?

No problem, share your grotty hotel room with  6 of your pals, buy a pack of straws to share your cokes and then claim you had a gold necklace stolen. Word of advice, check your travel insurance and the limit for loss of a single article. Don't claim more than that.  Happy holidays and please tell all your pals just how amassing Thailand could be.

It is only a 1 baht chain, nothing especially big

Yawn, groundhog day. I guess it generates site traffic.

Capt. Sombat said ''it was the tenth time..in the Pattaya area'' i'm guessing this year.

I'm sure this stolen chain scam forms part of the holiday package. Indias version of gofundme holiday is the gold chain insurance scam.

30k baht claims for a 3 star experience versus 100k baht claims for a 5 star extravaganza.

I was just gonna say what's happened to all the 100,000 bht chains?

If its the same thief stealing all these chains, he/she must be seriously loaded by now.

If he/she hasn't sold them on, should be  easy to spot. Just look for a ladyboy jewelled up like Mister T from the A Team. ????

I really doubt that this would be a case for an insurance.
