Mae hia is close to everything and has a great open market.  I live in the vicinity and shop there often....ok, I accompany the wife ????

 

Depends on what you are looking for in a place to live.

part of mae hia is on the south end of the airport.  if you're looking to live there, check the specific location and flight paths before you make a big commitment if you're sensitive to airplane noise.  Otherwise, i can say there is excellent food available at markets and restaurants in that part of chiang mai (both thai and western food)
