webfact
By Pitchayapa Phiwpong Thailand’s tourism sector is witnessing a rebound with the latest data suggesting that the country has witnessed more than 3 million tourists arriving up until July 23rd with the government putting up its hopes of being able to attract up to 10 million tourists for the remainder of the year. Thailand, which has seen its tourism market shatter with the lockdowns and the various travel restrictions that were put in place after the outbreak of the Covid-19 in 2020 and 2021, relies heavily on tourism to keep its economy going and tourism accounts for nearly 15% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). The data released by the Thai government showed that the highest number of tourists arriving were from the United States of America with 366,568 tourists, followed by India with 313,053 tourists, and 3rd was Singapore with 171,034 tourists. Popular Post edwinchester
Whoever wrote the Thai Enquirer article is obviously a moron. They don't even know the difference between the Malaysian and US flags. 366k visitors from Malaysia, 141k from the US shown in the press release graphic. StayinThailand2much
"Before the pandemic, the top five source markets were China, Laos, Malaysia, Russia and South Korea." (from a BP article, 21st May 2022) Who knows, if more Laotian high-value tourists arrive to do business at construction sites and factories, and more Malaysian tourists arrive with big luggage for day-trips, perhaps there will even be more... Popular Post Gknrd
I just flew in, not sure of the number coming into Thailand but my plane was full of Thai's. I counted maybe 10 farang I was sure of. San Francisco to Japan to BKK. Lotss of Philippines going back also. Plane was packed but not with what I would call high spending tourists. Hotel in BKK where I stay was all but empty, they said it had been dead for a long time now. BKK had so may businesses closed down from before the virus I was surprised. Straingly up country it is booming . But, by locals not farang where I am. Hotels are packed. Edited July 27, 2022 by Gknrd

zzaa09
Regardless of the figure, I trust that they'll all stay down there in their tourists circles. This comes about, we'll be in clover. ????
Tropicalevo
A quick snap shot from Samui. We manage rental villas and we have been 95% full this month. Bookings are just below (90%+) July 2019 numbers. The roads here are now just as busy as before Covid with lots of tourists wobbling around on motorbikes. Taxis and minivans everywhere shuttling people around. Also agree with the observation regarding nationalities. Pre Covid, maybe 6/7 groups from the USA per year. Since April this year, 2 to 3 groups per week. Then we have Indians, Middle East and France.
edwinchester
From the following article on foreign buyers of hotels within Thailand. "The key issue is reasonable price and attractive location as over 10 million domestic and foreign tourists are expected to travel within the country this year." Somebody may think TAT are including domestic tourists to inflate their overall figure, I couldn't possibly comment.

Stargeezr
I would be surprised that in July August and even early in September, there would be a lot of travelers, It is Summer time in the northern half of the earth, and most countries are not that bad to stay in. A tropical country, usually calls Summer months, low tourist season. October through Winter until April would be the time that more people want to get away from the cooler and cold months, hence High Season. I guess Thailand is hoping that lots of people will travel from October until the end of December and give Thailand some better tourist numbers for 2022.
