Police captain Nitiphat Srihabutr of the Ko Chan constabulary was called after a shooting outside a house at the end of Tessaban Soi 8 in Ko Chan, Chonburi, Thailand.

Dead with four bullet wounds was retired soldier Sub-Lt Khamnuan Khumwong, 58.

He was hit in the chest, center of the back, armpit and temple and evidence in the form of spent cartridges was found.

The victim's wife Atcharaporn said she had just come back from the market and her husband was strolling eating sweets.

From inside the house she heard four shots and saw her husband running and being pursued and shot. She didn't dare go out fearing she would become a victim herself, reported Thai Rath.

Police believe that the assailant is a man called Noppachai, a serving soldier of the rank of lieutenant at Fort Phol 11.

Three days ago the victim had a problem with Noppachai's son and they believe it was a revenge attack.

They have evidence of the arrival at the scene of a Mitsubishi Triton with no plates with another unidentified man inside.

Police are looking at CCTV in the area as investigations continue.

police should not disclose that info publicly, that doesn't help investigation, it's not professional.

Most likely it's also illegal to name crime perpetrator just on "believe" and without court warrant.

Would be interesting to know what so serious conflict there was. Was it shadowy deal? drugs?

You see "revenge killing" and you think maybe he was a mobster and killed someone.  Then you realise it's Thailand and it's possible that he just embarrassed the son by shouting at him.

Hopefully more information is forthcoming.

Or,  even looking at him the "wrong" way!

it's holiday season, but still they should be much proactive.

Thai police are on semi-permanent holiday all year.  Only the smell of baht will galvanise them into action to do the job they are paid for.

"Revenge killing" meets the revered Buddhist criteria for "Balance".

In most countries armed forces show nothing but discipline and respect, guess Thailand missed that memo.

I guess they also missed the memo about not overthrowing their government as well.  ????
