A mother in north eastern Thailand told Thai Rath of her shock after she had just left her 2 year 8 month old son with his paternal grandmother to go to a meeting.

The boy and his gran were crushed under rubble after a two meter high wall fell at a house in Samrong sub-district of Surin province.

Natthakit Yaemchu had just been playing happily with a friend. He had no chance and was found buried under bricks at the scene by rescue services.

His grandmother Wirat Luatlai, 53, was too distressed to talk. She had her leg trapped under rubble and was taken to hsopital.

A relative called Sawat, 62,said that two children were playing when she heard the noise of the wall falling and rushed to the scene to try and remove the bricks and masonry with her bare hands.

The boy's mother said she had just left her son with his gran because she had to attend a parent meeting.

She expressed her profound shock and disbelief at what had happened. Her son was a lively, normal, happy little boy.

She said that a couple of days ago there had been a gas leak and a friend had said it was a sign that something bad was going to happen.

There not contractors.

Usually a few relatives hurriedly putting up a wall for a relative for a few hundred baht.

RIP little guy.

My son is the same age is next to me now.  I can't imagine the intense sorrow felt by everyone.

So walls never fall down elsewhere?

RiP little one a tragic accident.

Poor little mite ???? Feel for his granny and parents too. What an avoidable horror!

Bl.ody rubbish construction.

Looks like zero 'bricktor' (wire/ties) through it, the concrete post lying there seems to have zero anchors into the wall either, the concrete post seems to have almost zero in-ground (if any) footing.

Warning to all if you have single skin walls, either of standard bricks or these ludicrously skinny 'Besablock (cinder type) around then reinforce them and NEVER, NEVER put lateral loads on these types of walls!
