Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong, Disease Control Department Director-General

While no cases have yet been reported in the country, Thailand is closely monitoring the tomato flu situation in India, but does not regard the disease as a matter of domestic concern.

According to Disease Control Department Director-General Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong, tomato flu in India is mostly found in children under 5, as the disease is readily transmissible through physical contact. Small children are most susceptible as they tend to put things in their mouths.

He said that about 100 cases have been found in India so far, but no deaths.

"Tomato flu not yet in Thailand ...." ... but it will probably ketch up!  ????

  • First, they have to identify the sauce of the outbreak ! ????

  • Or which of the 57 varieties it might be? Heinz-site might help in identifying the sauce of that first variety.

Tomato Flu: What is it and Who is at Risk?

image.jpeg

Ever since COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic, people have been more concerned than ever about potential disease threats.

The newest of these is called “tomato flu,” and has affected over 100 children in India, according to a recent correspondence in The LancetTrusted Source.

The authors report that tomato flu, likely a viral disease, was first identified in the Kollam district of Kerala, India on May 6, 2022.

According to The Lancet, the disease is considered non-life-threatening and resolves on its own in time.

In other words it is nothing to worry about but great for instilling fear into people. Obviously tomatoes are a high risk group of vegetables.

Don’t joke

never heard of tomato flu that is a new one

"The newest of these is called “tomato flu,” and has affected over 100 children in India, according to a recent correspondence in The LancetTrusted Source."

The population of India as of 2020 was 1.38 billion!

"The authors report that tomato flu, likely a viral disease, was first identified in the Kollam district of Kerala, India on May 6, 2022."

So in a period of 3 months plus, that works out at just over 1 a day.

"According to The Lancet, the disease is considered non-life-threatening and resolves on its own in time."

Thailand "does not regard the disease as a matter of domestic concern."

What a complete non-story.

Every type of new virus has always made the news in one form or another.  Prior to Covid most, including this, would have been glossed over and forgotten.  However, because of the media coverage theses days everyone has become desensitized, and everything said is analyzed where before it was not...
