Daily News Thai Caption: Cause (of death) urgently sought!

Daily News reported sad news from Mae Ramphung beach in Muang district of Rayong on Thailand's eastern seaboard after a turtle washed up dead.

Environmentalists, vets and fishing experts were called after a tourist found the creature outside the Rayong Beach Hotel on Monday afternoon.

It was 50 cms long, 30 cms wide and weighed about 10 kilos.

Vet Thanaphan Chomcheun said that it was a green sea turtle (chelonia mydas or tao tanu in Thai) aged about 5. Its sex could not be determined.

The body had no injuries and an initial examination of the intestinal contents revealed nothing untoward.

The turtle was taken away for a full autopsy to determine the cause of death and hopefully prevent a recurrence.
