The Governor of the Tourism Organization of Thailand, Yuthasak Supasorn, has attended a meeting with the General Secretary of Tourism Policy and Development, Olympia Anastasopoulou, with the aim of reviving tourism cooperation between both territories.

Recently the Hellenic Republic has been a popular destination for visitors from Thailand, while tourism traffic to and from Thailand has a long history of more than 40 years, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Supasorn also revived the tourism cooperation memorandum, which was signed 16 years ago, and also talked about prospects of resuming flights between both countries that were interrupted back in 2012 when Thai Airways said that it decided to stop direct flights between Bangkok and Greece’s capital.

During the meeting, the two officials, apart from the issue of air connectivity, also talked about visas. There have been reported many complaints from Thai travel agencies related to the delays in issuing tourist visas to citizens from Thailand who wish to travel to the Hellenic Republic.

it wouldn't hurt having direct flights, it is such a hassle to reach that country under the current situation, I have never understood why they suspended those flights but I guess we will not see a Bkk Athens next year

15/20 years ago I visited the Greek Islands on numerous occasions and cannot recall ever seeing a Thai tourist?

A photo of Santorini does not show Greece just one small island

Throw in a picture of a bottle of Ouzo and a big plate of Moussaka then. ????

Edit.

Just don't throw in a handful of chilli and think it's a good idea. ????????????

Could be a good idea.

The Thai middle class would probably enjoy Greece very much.

And Greeks could be the beginning of an era of"quality tourism" for Thailand.

Maybe...

(I sounded better in my head before I wrote it)

Greece is one of the cheaper places to visit in that part of the world, so I can understand why

it is popular to visit. Tourism is important for Greece as well as Thailand, so good luck to both countries.

Friend of mine is of Greek origin (an Aussie) and just visited family in Greece. He was much happier to spend a month in Thailand after his visit to Greece. To solve the issue of Thais having to apply for Schengen visas maybe it could work better in reverse whereby the Greeks get extra easy visa exempt access to Thailand and using the Greek national carrier (rather than Thai Airways). Surely, as Thailand is such a wonderful place there will be a flood of quality European tourists from the Hellenic Republic? No mention of where The Governor of the Tourism Organization of Thailand, Yuthasak Supasorn, attended a meeting with the General Secretary of Tourism Policy and Development, Olympia Anastasopoulou, with the aim of reviving tourism cooperation between both territories. Was it a free junket to or from Greece or was it in his office in Thailand? And, is that "Tourism Organization of Thailand" or "Tourism Authority of Thailand" TOT or TAT?

Supasorn stressed that trade relations between Greece and Thailand began 350 years ago,

At that time, Greece no longer existed as an independant country. It was occupied by ottoman empire !

I guess with the absence of masses from China and Russia they will entertain anyone.

Surprised Thailand hasn't tried to lure Turkey as they have the same outlook on many things.. or maybe Turkey is about to go bust?
