Can you  supply some evidence to support your view that tourism to Greece, Italy, Turkey, etc would be increased by having a constitutional monarchy?

I'll repeat again. I've still to see a convincing argument for separating the roles of head of state and head of government but - again - if it is deemed necessary, then s/he should be elected.

You inadvertently point out one advantage of having an elected head of state: If s/he turns out to be 'a tosser' you can vote them out. If an heritatory monarch turns out to be 'a tosser' we are stuck with them for their lifetime.

 Evidence, no, nor can you...

Perhaps you can tell me about a tosser UK monarch, I can't think of one, and at the mo, I can't think of a future UK monarch tosser either, they all seem to have done a splendid job. ????

You cannot say that for some countries that have questionable leadership after their cull, China, Russia, France, Germany, to name just a few. ????

Having read this whole topic, your comments, replies and then your replies, I've come to the conclusion you are just trying to be difficult. This often happens when people feel they are losing an arguement.

The post you refer too clearly stated the source of the details.

A quick "Google" brings up all the info you need. A process you seem to be incapable of completing.

When people make claims, factual claims, they should be able to substantiate. The argument should not be: I gave a number, check on Google.

See my reply to @puchooay. It's up to you to prove the proposition not me to disprove it.

You don't have to go that far back. Try Edward VIII for size. A nazi sympathiser.

I'm surprised by this comment. You usually bring out the crystal ball and berate people for making predictions.

In any event, neither you, me or anyone else has any idea what type of monarch Charles, William or George will turn out to be like.

China and Russia are not democracies. France and Germany are and seem to function pretty well without a monarchy nowadays.

Wasn't Edward VIII at the helm for less than a year.....Sounds pretty good to me......Don't you think.....????

China was full of "Kings" in different areas till Communism came along.

The "people" slaughtered the Russian Royal Family, to be taken over by, yet again, Communism..Oh dear...????

You're correct.

No I don't. It would have been better if he hadn't got into a position where he could whield constitutional power in the first place.

The fact that he was effectively ejected for wanting to marry a divorcee, rather than the more serious issue of supporting an ideology which rejected democracy suggests to me that the system wasn't working.

Oh dear indeed. But what's your point?

It isn't an 'either/or' choice between a constitutional monarchy or a (communist) totalitarian system as numerous functioning democracies around the world - which are neither one not the other - demonstrate.

Research thoroughly before making factual claims online. Some quick googling and linking to source websites builds trust with others.

He has inherited it on paper only.

He can't sell it, mortgage it or rent it out. There really is no value to him. It is just an object.

When will people get it into their heads that although the royal family own so much, the value in real money is zero.

He can spend the night there can't he?

Does it come with a full compliment of wait staff?

Edward VIII was next in line for the throne, he never got it, did he, plus, every family has a black sheep, the Royal Family knows they have another, Harry, but I think we can agree he's had his wing's clipped, so to speak....????

I think you'll find he abdicated as he didn't want to go against the constitution.

Technically you are correct. However, I find it hard to believe that an individual with Nazi tendencies would have much regard for the constitution.

You are incorrect. Edward VIII did get it. He was king and had all the constitution power that goes with that position.

The fact that an undesirable individual who - but for his choice of spouse! - can be elevated to a position of influence in the first place should be a cause for concern.

What more evidence is needed to debunk this ridiculous idea that some individuals - simply  because  of their birthright - will make more capable leaders.

So in your view anyone who has owned property, including the castles and homes that the royals have, should not be entitled to the monies they are worth and it should go to the people, even though it was the royals relatives in the past who bought and paid for those properties.  Oh I get it you believe that because taxes levied on the farmers and so on paid for these properties then they are owned not by the Crown but the people...try again.

They stole it 600 years ago

You've lost me? What's your point? Edward VIII wouldn't have held Nazi tendencies if he had remained king?

The UK have had many ties with many countries over the centuries. And?

What makes you think things would be different as a republic?

Not sure the UK having another form of government would be any better than what we already have. Look at Putin, Musharraf, Erdogan, Chavez for a start. All made themselves President for life..

Even Trump has shown the weaknesses in the American system.

Just give the castles back to the state. Charge double admission fees give all funds to poor.

Let Royals keep $10m. Put them in upmarket apartments.

Back to the state???

As for funds to the poor, you may wish to research how much the royal family raise and give to charity. Huge amounts of money.

Also, admission fees for castles goes to the treasury, minus the royal grant.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_Party

Wikipedia give the name as the The Nazi Party,[a] officially the National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei[b] or NSDAP), was a far-right[7][page needed][8] political party in Germany active between 1920 and 1945 that created and supported the ideology of Nazism. Its precursor, the German Workers' Party (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei; DAP), existed from 1919 to 1920.

really? The Queen worked every day of her life up to 2 days before she died aged 96, and you call that not working.

I quit working at age 65. She started working and training before I (and most of the posters here) was born and her last official task was 2 days before she died.

She made a commitment in 1952 to work for her country and her people however short or long her life may be, and she kept her word for 70 years.

AFAIAC she did a brilliant job and she was worth far more to the country than the country ever paid her.

Of course you can go to Pattaya, not be recognised and do what you want, as can 99.x% of the people in the world as yo, like me and the other 99.x% are nonentities, but the Queen and her family are under the glare of the spotlight 24/7/365. with TV and still cameras and reporters around 24/7/365 just waiting for that little slip to happen.

I couldn't and wouldn't do that job and certainly for the salary, houses, perks etc that they earned.
