According to a Facebook post by one of her relatives, the woman is Srithong Areewong, a former headmistress of the Dara Academy in Chiang Mai. Srithong was found to be the only person in Chiang Mai at the time who could speak English fluently and was assigned the duty to serve as the interpreter for the late Queen. I arrived in Chiang Mai in 1972 but after Queen Elizabeth had left. There were large number of Thai staff at CMU who spoke fluent English. Surely these must also have been somebody at the British Consulate who was fluent in Thai !! 1

How do you know she spoke more languages than QEII and how is that even relevant? She spoke two languages fluently and 4 others less fluently - so presumably this 101-year-old woman speaks at least 7 languages?

Sydebolle
So what ???? I am absolutely sure the Embassy, the Foreign Office or the Royal Household had their own translation experts on hand ....... Only one English speaker in CNX fifty years ago - what a surprise ????
