Public Health Minister vows to support Cannabis and Hemp Draft Bill, criticizes three political parties for objections

Bangkok – Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul criticized three political parties for not prioritizing the lives of the Thai people after voting disapproval of the Cannabis and Hemp Draft Bill on Wednesday, September 14th.

The Minister stated on Thursday, September 14th, that the voting disapproval from Pheu Thai, Democrat, and Phalang Pracharath parties was intended to delay the implementation which might not be in the time for this current parliament that ends in March 2023.

 

He also responded to Democrat MP Sathit Wongnongtoey’s allegation of the lax law that sections in the draft bill were added to 90 sections from 45 sections, so it was impossible to be considered loose.

Probably better than you think.

in a very short period of time, Anutin has become quite powerful and he also has quite a few very powerful friends in his back pocket.

His decriminalization of weed has elevated his status and won him much support, all the way down to the voting public, it was a political masterstroke.

 

I thank Anutin for giving me my right to toke but I trust him as much as I trust any politician.

Don't let his bumbling act fool you, this man is not a fool, he knows what he wants and IMHO he will get it.

There are so many ways one can better the lives of the Thai people than to fight tooth and nails to decriminalization of weed, and it's a very long list of urgent things that need, should and can be done other than that weeds issue, but this is Thailand after all, go figure their priorities...

Anutin's Party will get the vast majority of votes in the village I live in, if the amount of Cannabis plants being grown here is anything to go by. It used to staunchly pro-Thaksin, but he's now become yesterday's man. Can't understand the Democrats position, perhaps their chums didn't get in early enough to maximise profits from the legalisation?

The Democrats are an opposition party.. There is a segment, apparently not that large, that are unhappy about cannabis reform. They and the other two parties would like their votes.

 

Pheu Thai is surprising though. I don't think this will play well in Issan, since Issan is poised to be beneficially impacted by this new industry.

Thankfully, Anutin has been relatively quiet lately, and seemingly gone from public view. Whether or not that was intentional, who knows? But, nobody needs him to poke his ugly head up ever again. What he says and does is beyond irrelevant. He is the very personification of an empty suit. Nothing he does or says matters one iota. 

 

Having said all that, any opposition to cannabis is foolhardy, dumb, and just bad judgment. Shame on the Dems. They are on the wrong side of history, at a time when they need to be showing more wisdom and a more progressive attitude, than the dinosaurs.

Support for this decriminalisation goes right to the very, very top and Anutin knows this. Somebody has invested heavily in it.

 

The Democrats, who wouldn’t understand democracy if it crawled into bed with them, are the dying party of the old crusties who largely can’t understand how it is possible that they have been fed reefer madness drivel all these decades and are reacting against this to preserve face; PT are doing what they are told by a leader who is out of touch with his constituency after having been blocked from the country for decades and also still has that now internationally long discarded war-on-drugs mindset on this plant; and MF just see it as a way to attack the current government with no real long term commitment to recriminalisation beyond that.

Correct me if I am wrong, when cannabis was decriminalised was it not supposed to be used for medicinal purposes only, it appears to being used as a recereational drug currently ?

If the Bill fails what will happen to all the people who have been released from prison be re arrested ?

Cannobis for medical treatment is acceptable but for recreational use no. Thailand is at risk of making herself a proriora state if she does not control its use.

Says you. It was phased in from medical to recreational in US. Why don't you go over and tell all the buyers what they can and cannot put in their body ?

Buyers will just re-orient to under medical use if need-be.

You mean like Canada, many states in the USA, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Croatia, Colombia, Belgium, Austria, Argentina,  Georgia, Malta, Mexico, South Africa, and Uruguay, plus the countless other countries where the law is not enforced any more. Those "proriora" states?

Can you please provide links to peer reviewed articles saying what you say is true.

 

IMHO all that has happened for cannabis has come out from behind the curtain.  I doubt that cannabis has increased by more than a few percent.  It was being used clandestinely for years and years.

Same in the gated community I live in, here in Bangkok. It's almost laughable that people who have never smoked weed before are now growing it. My wife who has never smoked weed before, has a nice little crop right next to her roses. She has no plans to smoke it, just wanted to grow some. Next to the Family Mart nearby, there's a beauty salon that has a couple of plants growing right in front of their shop.
