Health insurance in Pattaya

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a good health insurance company in Pattaya?
I am retiring there soon age 55 with a couple of health issues & want to have good cover

AA Insurance are brokers who have access to different suppliers.  I'm with Pacific Cross through them at no additional cost to going direct.

The existing health issues may be a problem. and may be excluded. ????

depending on your budget, from some 10k/year to 10x that.

All pre-existing will be excluded, put premium on or refused policy (the worst scenario, because the other insurers approached later will most likely also refuse).

Talk to brokers, they have experience in dealing with many insurers.

The above mentioned AA usually recommends pacific cross (also mentioned above), as well as another one company for choice/comparison.

Check misterprakan.com for 6 most prominent companies dealing with foreigners.

The PC gives the largest deductible, which is 300k, as well as up to 20% for not claiming. That way your total  can get reduced by 70%.

don't limit yourself for pattaya brokers. You can correspond with very many brokers all over thailand, to get as much opinions as possible. Much more efficient, than visiting their offices - you get clear explanations black and white in email. Take your time, even weeks, to read more.

There is an insurance sub-forum, check there.

I suggest you consider carefully between a Thai issued policy vs internationally issued expatriate policies.

You do not need a policy from a Thai company to be insured in Thailand, many international companies have policies specifically for expatriates and direct pay arrangements with Thai hospitals.

Policies from Thai companies fall under Thai insurance regulations which are much weaker than the regulations governing insurance in western countries. Among other things, they allow the company to make substantial additional hikes in your premium based on your claims history (in addition to age related increases). This is especially a problem for people wanting to live out their retirement here as they soon get priced out and by that point are also unable to get other policies.

It is also possible no Thai company will agree to cover you if you have pre-existing conditions as they tend to be more extreme in that regard than international insurers. Though even the latter may exclude your pre-existing problems.

Cost of insurance?

Too many variables to give an accurate answer, but Pacific Cross prices are available on their website after answering a few questions and deciding on cover required.

Likewise websites of most other insurers. Or broker can provide you with comparison chart.

Some insurers offer deductible and/or copay options which, if elected, reduce premiums (but of course make sure you have the amount of the deductible set aside)

Since you are planning to retire here, don';t look just at current cost, look also at what happens in the older age brackets.
