Meteorological Department warns of heavy rain in Central, BKK, East and South

The Meteorological Department has reported today (Jun 25) that a low pressure cell covers the lower part of the Gulf of Thailand, and a southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea and southern Thailand. Thundershowers with gust remain over the country. Heavy rain is likely in the Central, Bangkok, East and South. People should beware of heavy rain and gust during this period.

Meanwhile, Bangkok metropolitan and vicinity will likely see cloudy and almost widespread thundershowers with isolated heavy rain and gust. The minimum temperature will be 26 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature will be 35 degrees Celsius. The speed of southwesterly winds will be about 15 to 30 kilometers per hour.

Monsoon hits Thailand, bringing rain

(BangkokPost.com) - An active southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf on Wednesday morning, bringing abundant rain throughout the country, according to the Meteorological Department.

There will be heavy rain in the following provinces -- Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Lamphun, Lampang, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Tak, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phangnga, Phuket and Krabi.

The department warned that people should beware of flooding in the following a day or two.

Strong wind and wave is also likely in the Gulf and the Andaman Sea, it said.

Widespread thundershowers with isolated heavy rain are also expected in Bangkok.

People should beware of potential flood in the following couple of days. In addition, strong wind and wave are likely in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. All ships should take more caution and small boats in the Andaman Sea should keep ashore during this period.

Trat warns of natural disasters in a couple of days

Trat Deputy Governor Anan Pittayayon warns public members of potential flash flood from heavy rain during the next couple of days.

The Meteorological Department reports that the southwest monsoon currently covering the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand is intensifying. Most regions of Thailand would experience heavy rain during this period. The provincial administration of Trat advises local residents to closely follow the weather updates. People living nearby mountainous areas should be careful of possible landslide. At the same time, residents living in lowlands and river banks must beware of excessive water or flash flood. In addition, strong wind could cause damages while ships should also take precaution.

People who are experiencing difficulties from windstorm and inundation can seek help at the local administration or contact the Disaster Preventive and Mitigation Department.

Residents on Yom River banks warned of imminent flooding

The Deputy Governor of Sukhothai Province warns residents living along the banks of the Yom River to keep abreast of the Meteorological Department’s weather forecasts as inundation is expected during these two days.

Sukhothai Deputy Governor Saman Pangwatcharakorn (สมาน ปางวัชรากร) says ongoing heavy to very heavy rains at some areas in the North might lead to flooding soon.

The Meteorological Department suggests residents in Northern provinces including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, and Tak to remain cautious of natural disasters such as flash flood and forest water.

Meteorological Department warns of flash floods and landslide from July 1st – 3rd

The Director-General of the Meteorological Department warns residents in disaster-prone areas of heavy rain from July 1st – 3rd. The heavy rain may lead to flash floods and landslides.

Director-General of the Meteorological Department Supharerk Tansriratanawong (ศุภฤกษ์ ตันศรีรัตนวงศ์) discloses that the ongoing heavy rain all over the country has been influenced by the strong Southwestern monsoon at the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Although the monsoon is expected to weaken today, heavy rain is expected again during the period between July 1st – 3rd.

Residents in disaster-prone areas in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces are warned of flash flood and landslide. The director-general affirms it will monitor the situation closely in order to warn the residents in time.

The Meteorological Department has also cooperated with relevant government units, including the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Royal Irrigation Department, the Department of Water Resources, and the National Disaster Warning Center to assist those in coastal and high-mountain areas.

The Meteorological Department has reported today (Jul 5) that a southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Thailand is intensifying. More rains and gusty winds are expected over northeastern, eastern and southern Thailand while strong wind and wave in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf are likely. All ships should proceed with caution, and small boats should keep ashore in the next couple of days. A tropical depression centered at Tokin Gulf is expected to enter southern China.

Meanwhile, Bangkok metropolis and vicinity will likely see scattered thundershowers and isolated gust. The minimum temperature will be 25 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature will be 34 degrees Celsius. The speed of southwesterly winds will be around 15 to 35 kilometers per hour.
