A top abbot and parish priest in the north of Thailand has resigned from the monkhood after a sex clip emerged.

 

The Thai press in the form of Daily News and others reported that the abbot dumped his saffron robes for four minutes of fun with a middle aged lady.

 

The temple wasn't named but it's in Phaya Khiri district of Nakhon Sawan. 

 

Locals complained about the abbot - Thai monks are meant to be celibate and shun earthly possessions. 

 

Janya Ratanalekha of the local Buddhist affairs office said that the abbot had notified her of his intention to resign his positions from September 19th. 

 

He cited health concerns.

 

Then the clip emerged.

 

Locals at the temple were busy in conversing about the scandal. 

 

There was shock - the abbot had been developing the temple and local religious affairs for 35 years.
