September 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Now I'm in my 60's my time left is far more valuable, Last week I went to visit my nephew in jail, I hadn't seen him for years . 36yo been in and out of jail for years ,now his longest stint. I look at him all tattooed up ,acting like a teenager,at the end of every sentence he is calling me "bro or "brah" He tells me too he wants to go live in Asia when he "retires" He hasn't got a cent to his name never worked in his life I finally get sick of it and I say to him , your wasting time ,wasting your life ! You haven't got a house ,no money nothing ! And now I fast forward to walking in a Department government housing area this morning that is just near my place It has two large condo buildins here in Australia over 500 apartment highrise full of old age pensioners and disability people paying low rent for these government apartments. I stroll around the estate park, and they all go for morning walks sine look like ex druggies ,old hippies, some driving those mobility scooters and many in their 60's on walking sticks looking very old. I think <deleted> where the F did these people go wrong to live in this awful government housing block ? They must of wasted their life . Did you or are you wasting your life ?
September 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Wasted or victim of circumstance, or even by choice. Everyone has a "story" and all anyone can do is whats seems right to them at the time. Hindsight is always very clear and easy, at the time, not so much. Just think that that could easily have been you if you hadnt made the choices you made. Appreciate what you have, while you have it, no one is perfect and we ALL make mistakes.

September 30, 20223 yr Popular Post I wasted a great deal of my life, in between doing amazing things which were anything but wasting time. I suppose every minute watching tv or on the internet is a waste of time that could be used for better things. Sadly the dark side of the force is strong.

I think that is the point of the OP's post. is when you DONT learn from mistakes then you get the circumstances you deserve. Everybody deserves a second chance, but when you foul up 10, 12 15, 20 times in a row then you deserve everything you get imo.
September 30, 20223 yr Popular Post OP, not sure whether you nephew wasted his life so far. As you said he has never worked in his life so he has been very time rich...and still probably not lived that bad in the welfare freeloader state that is Australia. In a few years he may get government accommodation, and come the pension age he gets OAP without working a single day. It is the middle class wasting their life, working every month hand to mouth, incredibly time poor, and in the end would probably get less pension than your nephew.

September 30, 20223 yr I def wasted a fair bit of it. If only I had been working on a cure for cancer instead. Except......that cure for cancer thing prob wouldn't have really panned out. So same result with zero effort? I win!!!!

At no point was I ever engaged in a dramatic struggle between good and evil -more like between dumb and dumber -a film that could serve as my bio. I def think that way about my bad love affairs; those thankless drones stopped me from being with even worse women. Thanks, gals!
September 30, 20223 yr Popular Post I wasted my life with a couple of women in Australia I should have waved goodbye to after a couple of weeks. I don't consider I wasted my life otherwise, I achieved a lot in sport and my chosen profession. IMO I wasted part of my life out of a sense of duty and responsibility, the only ethic I have now is avoiding hurting anyone.
September 30, 20223 yr Popular Post How do you measure waste? Depends what you want to do. 80% of the world have little funds.
September 30, 20223 yr Most people in the world live in poverty. 85% of the world live on less than $30 per day, two-thirds live on less than $10. https://www.globalissues.org/article/26/poverty-facts-and-stats&ved=2ahUKEwiW-cTR37v6AhXZ8DgGHcb_C2EQFnoECAgQBQ&usg=AOvVaw2ztiSxhvmG-M7sl7d7aZ_6

Beating down on someone in jail is rather harsh, and tells me a lot about you. To create a thread on such hatred tells me even more.....both are not good. If a person is fat, poor, dumb, ugly, etc...... can we tell them they are wasting their life. again......glass houses and all that.
September 30, 20223 yr Popular Post It's time again to quote Stephen Leather's character Jack Nightingale: Nightingale blew smoke up at the sky. ‘Everybody dies,’ he said. ‘Life is a zero sum game. The best you can do is to enjoy yourself as you go along.’ ‘But smoking shortens your life.’ ‘Maybe. But it only takes the years from the end of your life. Not the beginning or the middle.’ Jenny looked at him, confused. ‘I have absolutely no idea what you mean.’ Nightingale took another drag on his cigarette before continuing. ‘Say I live until I’m seventy-five without smoking. And say I die at seventy if I do smoke. I lose five years. But really, Jenny, what am I going to be doing during those five years? Sitting in a bedsit somewhere watching the football, assuming I’ve enough of a pension to be able to afford Sky Sport?’
September 30, 20223 yr I want to hear more about -and then heavily snark on - this touching prison reunion that took place after not seeing this dim witted, tattoo'd miscreant for years. What occasioned this sad, futile trip to jail? What did you expect? What possessed you to want to berate a near-stranger over failing to own a house? Edited September 30, 20223 yr by LaosLover

September 30, 20223 yr I think it all depends on what we want and how we want to live our lives. Obviously, it's good to get some inspiration from others and learn about possible options. But at the end of the day, we should all individually decide how we want to live our life. I.e. I am sure my father thought I wasted my life. But I did and do what I want to do. And I think he should have lived his life and have some fun. Different perspectives.
September 30, 20223 yr Popular Post 1 hour ago, georgegeorgia said: Did you or are you wasting your life ? No, not at all, although I could have saved myself three years of heartache in a useless/nonworking marriage back in the UK, but apart from that I have done well in a couple of sports, played football alongside former professionals, played tennis against Steffi Graf and sailed the NZ America's Cup challenge boat in Auckland harbour, to name but a few things. I partied hard when I could and travelled overseas seeking out adventure and money after getting qualified in a trade, and later on in life I moved into management and investments and ended up starting an multibillion-dollar investment division for a major NZ bank, before retiring. My only regret would be that I worked too hard in that last job, putting my health at risk and not knowing when to stop – – being a "driven man" seeking out recognition, which was something I never got in my childhood, which endangered my health eventually. No way in the world could I ever look back and say I wasted my life, because there's nothing in it I would change. Actually there is one thing I would have changed if I had the chance again, and that was when I was around 18 years old and playing in a good standard of nonleague football, I was asked to go for trials at Queens Park Rangers, when a couple of their scouts had watched me on a few occasions, and although the manager of the football club encouraged me to take up that opportunity, I never had the confidence in my own self/game and didn't go!!!

Mentally planning retirement, from a jail cell with no assets or job/trade (guessing) when released, when ever in the future, and already half his life has passed him by. Doesn't give much hope for any life forward, let alone retirement planning. Tough Love ... reality. Help if there's hope, if not, lock your doors. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance, sounds like he's on #5 & up, and enjoying the revolving door of being incarcerated ... Been there, done that ... ???? Actually just overnight stays, but enough to tell me, general pop probably isn't for me. Get bored way to fast. Edited September 30, 20223 yr by KhunLA

September 30, 20223 yr Popular Post I wasted mine by not having kids. 41 now and i wish i could travel back in time to correct this. I have friends and their kids are about to go to university. This must be one of the most satisfying experiences ever. So jealous of them. Yes i have money but what's the use of hoarding it in the absence of a family and loved ones who are of greater value than any amount of material wealth. Thinking of having kids at this age asap or adopting.
