Despite Thailand relaxing almost all of the measures put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19, the wearing of face masks remains mandatory on public transport and in cinemas, the Department of Health has said.

According to Dr Aekkachai Piansriwatchara, a deputy director of the Department of Health, people are still required to wear face masks and respect social distancing when using public transport and going to the cinema.

Regular cleaning of contact points and surfaces in higher risk businesses will also remain in place, as will screening of staff and visitors.

From October 1, COVID-19 was downgraded in Thailand from a dangerous communicable disease to a communicable disease under surveillance.

It's hard to let control go specially in a country where people are conditioned to follow irrespective of merit or legality of order. Guns and Tanks rule!!!

Take a taxi. Get the DVD, or watch it on Netflix.

Good luck with that on the BTS skytrain crammed in like sardines in a tin.

Yes, a boxing match for Thailand, a football match for North Italy......

You do understand that you wear a mask over your nose and mouth, not your eyes?

It is usually so cold in there a scarf over the nose and mouth is needed anyhow!

It's a pickle, what do you do when you have still, high number of infections every week as well as death from the disease, but on the other hand you want to move forward and leave that dreaded Covid behind you for the sake of everyone including the image of Thailand for the tourism industry...

As I said on another thread this single news report( picked up by multiple outlets)  and statement from one health official is the only evidence of the official terms a "mandate".

I'm not confident this mandate actually exists and there's plenty of government messaging clearly stating masks are not mandated, by the government, anywhere in Thailand.

It contradicts previous advice by multiple government sources. It also contradicts what the PT operators themselves are saying.

Singling out a single indoor venue like cinemas also makes no sense, especially since you eat/drink in them.

If they were mandatory on public transport, airlines would be enforcing them, which they are not. I do not believe this is an actual mandate law.

Get your act together Thailand.  All those covid-weary tourists you courted will be mightily <deleted> after they spent thousands of dollars to get here only to be forced to wear a stupid mask when they shop or travel. Grow up a bit.

I was hospitalised  tuther week in a government hospital. Before admittance I had to have a Covid test to confirm I didn't have it. I assume all other patients were tested as well. What puzzled me was that when visitors came into the hospital they weren't tested. Rules for one. Rules for others.

I consider a mask wearer as someone who is showing consideration for others..... and I very much feel negatively about people who do not wear one where it is obligated.

I imagine those same tourists would be pretty disappointed if they end up in bed with covid on their holidays, that they caught on crowded public transport.

I have friends at the moment, out of action, with covid they contracted in Thailand.
