Watching TNN now and they are showing a Cabinet meeting presided over by the PM himself, as well as a media interview he gave regarding the flooding and ALL were wearing masks...

 

Prawit and a large contingent are being shown at the Chao Phrya Dam and all of them as well as media are wearing masks.....

From a televised MoPH leadership public meeting this morning:

Ooops.... now they're not!  ????

 

A bit weird... They all started the meeting wearing their masks. Then they took them off to pose side by side for some photos... And then after that, most of them seemed to carry on with the meeting sans masks...

 

But for purposes of this thread.. I should add... they weren't holding this meeting either in a cinema or public transportation conveyance, as far as I know!  ????

Its not just Thailand, some mask mandates are still in place in the US in some states, for example, District of Columbia  mandatory in libraries, health care facilities, long-term care facilities, shelters, prisons and District government buildings in which employees interact with the public.

I was onMRT and BTS today , they announced that it is advised to wear and not mandatory

I was at the food fair in Central Festival, Chiang Mai, yesterday. Hundreds of people, all masked. Thank god there weren’t any anti-mask farangs there.

Back to being very full just like the MRT with everyone coming back to work as well as people going out in the evenings.  Only ones not wearing masks on the BTS and the MRT this evening were 50% of the foreigners. Everyone else is wearing them as requested. MBK Mall was very busy tonight as well, and all wearing masks except about 50% of the foreigners

This is a good example of culture difference between east and west. Westerners are all about freedom and liberty. Asians are more about respecting authorities, social norms and consideration for others. 
 

I may strongly believe in one set of values but if they differ from those of the country I’m living in, I will either adapt or leave.

Are you living in the same Thailand as me?  Most Thai people have zero consideration for others!  

 

They are some of the most selfish people I have met. They want to act 'properly' in public to show off and make themselves look good.  They are self absorbed, and even at the temples they just go to make merit for THEMSELVES for personal gain or to win the lottery 

 

No consideration about their neighbours, noise, rubbish and pollution, no care for wildlife, the  environment or animals.  

 

They are not wearing masks to protect others...they wear them to conform, as they don't want to be gossiped about or be seen in a bad light.

I’m living in Thailand, not sure if it’s the same Thailand as you. I presume that you are still happy living in “your” Thailand, hence your continued stay. I have lived in many countries, leaving when I did not enjoy my stay anymore.

Yea it basically sums to many Thais doing as they are told due to fear of how they may be viewed by others.

If 7/11 is a public transport or a cinema, you apparently have to wear a mask there according to the news article cited in the OP.

In the UK the NHS stated that there was no longer any need for masks in hospital/surgery waiting rooms unless a patient presented with respiratory symptoms then that individual should be offered a mask (if they could tolerate it) 4 months ago yet my own local hospital still insists everyone wears a mask regardless. However my local GP surgery doesn't require mask wearing. It seems like informed statements are made by 'powerful' people in both countries and totally ignored by their subordinates.

This is a line from the letter which I have uploaded

"For outpatients, UEC and primary care: • Patients with respiratory symptoms who are required to attend for emergency treatment should wear a facemask/covering, if tolerated, or offered one on arrival. • All other patients are not required to wear a facemask unless this is a personal preference."

It's not a law, it's not a mandate. It's a recommendation from one health official. 

 

 

I was in a restaurant that was empty. I sat in a corner booth to eat alone quietly and read on my phone. 

 

Some fat guy came in 5 minutes after and sat at the table right next to me with his back to me and in front of a window where we could see each others reflections.????‍♂️

 

The fat fk then took a non stop phone call complete with coughing etc.

 

Then another guy came in and sat in the booth right next to us, leaving the entire rest of the restaurant empty ????.

 

I had to move to the other end of the restaurant, half expecting them to follow me over.

 

What's up with people these days? Seems like people get closer then necessary for no apparent reason. No wonder there is a mask mandate, people are just morons. You never know what's going on in their heads.

OK, so, I am very happy here thank you.  I have lived here full time for nearly 25 years. I speak, read and write Thai to a good standard and my social circle and friends are 99 percent Thai people. 

 

In fact , I have only 1 farang friend, and do not socialise with any other farangs or get involved with any expat clubs for many years.

 

I have a long tern, and very happy relationship for 24 years here. 

 

I think I have a good understand of the Thai culture and way of life for the 'average' Thai person.  

 

I believe 100 percent that most Thai people DO NOT wear masks out of 'consideration for the health of others', as you state. .   

 

If you believe that is the main reason they are wearing them, then you are very misguided.  

 

The reasons is because they believe they themselves are in danger from catching dangerous COVID, and also they don't want people to gossip or think bad of them for not wearing one.

Yes... but mask wearing will depend on how the driver feels about it. I used a Bolt recently but had left my only mask in the room... didn't seem to worry driver nor his wife (I think it was). Generally drivers are wearing them and it seems correct to do similar.

Its the same in Nakhon Si Thammarat. About 90%  or more are masked everywhere
