Praise for honest Thai cabby: He returned 250K after transfer blooper

Praise has come for yet another honest Bangkok cabby.

 

This time it was Thanasorn Thongdee who has a history of contacting a local radio station  to get forgotten items returned to their rightful owners. 

 

In a recent case he made sure a passenger with Thai, US and Cambodian currency got his money back.

Now Thanasorn has returned 253,000 baht.

 

A passenger called Sakkarin Anprasert who was travelling to Pahonyothin Soi 64 on Thursday night meant to transfer 253 baht to the driver.

 

By mistake he keyed in 253,303 and sent that. He flashed evidence of payment at the driver and they went their separate ways.

 

In the morning Sakkarin had a nasty shock when he saw the state of his account that he needs to look after his sick mother, reported Siam Rath. 

 

He contacted the 1644 number and importantly a local radio station that handles things like this got involved and put two and two together.

 

Thanasorn was praised also in pictures published by INN.

why not just contact your bank, have them contact his bank, etc.....

 

If I have to contact a local radio station, I'll never get my 20 baht back if I drain my account by accident.

I can understand keying in 2,530 but not 253,303 and he even "flashed evidence of the payment" ... was he mau?

The cabby didn't do squat until the passenger chased him down via the media. About as honest as an honest Thai cop.

why not just contact your bank, have them contact his bank, etc.....

Why?  Because the radio station has easier access to the taxi driver (the passenger's bank doesn't) and, even if the bank did contact him, the bank cannot demand that he returns the money that the passenger voluntarily sent to the driver.  The potential publicity from the radio station is much more effective and guarantees good publicity for the driver that the bank wouldn't provide.

Perhaps the cabby, as with most people, doesn't check his bank balance every five minutes?

It's a radio station frequently monitored by taxi companies abd drivers.

Well done by the driver. It's the only decent thing to do, but many would jump at the opportunity to try to take the money themselves, both here and in places like Europe and the US.

Good they tracked the cab-driver down, so he could have his moment of fame as a true saint.

 

Wonder what would have happened, if they hadn’t looked for him and found him…

That's why you shouldn't use a bank transfer for payment. Very hard to get money back in case of mistake. Credit cards give you more protection.
